I can't be the only person who thinks this.
Whenever you read a BL book and you have all the little grunts walking about shoooting each other etc everything is going along swimmingly, the main character is all heroic and the bad guy is bad etc.
But, when a named character from the game turns up opposing the main character you know something bad will happen to the main character.
Example
Spoiler:
In the Soul Drinker omnibus when Lysander tunrs up acting as a heavily armed SM police force and drags Sarpedon and his homies in I had a bad feeling all the way through, it was inevitable as soon as his name was spoken that something bad would happen

I know why the named character cannot be killed (Because it would be all fanboyish etc) but i can't help but feel annoyed that my new imaginary friend just got his ass whooped simply because the guy he was fighting was in one of the codeci.
Does anyone else feel the same? Or am i a tool who gest too into the books?
Should the named characters be defeated in some way or foiled?

Back in the UK and hating it

but in your example there's still a book to go!

(not that I expect anything bad to happen to the named one!)

I know and i'm excited about the next one. Another example would be Cadian Blood. Although what does happen to the named guy is actually quite suprising.

What happened to him? I haven't read Cadian Blood in a while.

Spoiler:
Typhus turns up in the Terminatus Est which is badly damaged. He lands and his warband is slowly decimated by hit-and-run attacks by a raven guard company. He rips his way through about 10 chimeras and is about to engage the main character when he stops turns around and buggers off. I was surprised.

The mention of special characters in Bl books is almost cringeworthy as i know it's gonna be a terminal case of mary sue.
same kind of cringing i get when people try to play special characters in RPs. Just NO
