Eternal Plague

Here is my current project for the Tyranids:

I am trying to paint some Tyranids to a color scheme I got from a trade. I want to match them closely to what they look like and then try and make them better.

Above I show eight different models. In the back row are three in the process of getting painted the bare minimum of colors before I insert some green.

Model on the back right is primed black. Model on the left has a coat of Scorched Brown thinned down by water, and the middle has a second brownish coat- this time in Dark Flesh.

Closer shot:

The front row is a series of models from right to left showing the process I used to get them to a final finished product, with the furthest left Termagant being a model I am using as a reference.

Model on furthest right has a coat of Goblin Green on armor plating. Model second from right has his coat smoothed out by Thraka Green wash. Second from left has the final coating, a wet then dry brush of a light minty green color, or Rotting Flesh.

For final detail, Rotting Flesh for teeth and that Warlock Purple (whatever that purple color is) for some minor details.

Looking for critique and also ways to improve on the painting done so far.

I think the main issues are the flatness of the brown (unless that's the cameras fault) and the highlight on the green.

My opinion would be to drybrush the brown with Blazing Orange and then wash with Devlan Mud. This will improve the contrast and pick out the details and should give a similar "warm" appearance to the HF Behemoth models in the codex.

For the green I would change the base colour to Orkhide Shade and build up the highlights with Hawk Turquoise applied with very very light drybrushing.

Hope that gives some dieas
