When you assault a tank must you stop at the shortest distance. For example a assault marine assaults a rhino must it stop at the closest point or can it use its entire six inches? This is if you want to contest another objective and you gotta go by the tank. Also what is the cover rule say you are using thunderwolf and you are shooting at it with some devastators. What if just a small part of a thunder wolf is covered, does it get a cover save?

Help would be nice!

Base to base is all thats required for assault. just got to touch it dont matter where you move it too so long as it doesnt move more than the max allowed.

50% covered = cover save.

Sorry bad formatting

Nope, I would not play it like that. Having a foot in cover is not being in cover.

If you can see any part of an individual non MC creature cover, then it is not in cover, it is in LoS (barring of course banners, wings or deocrative elements).

The TWC is not a MC, the 50% rule is for MC or Vehicles.

calypso has it right. Sorry, Walrus, but it's not an issue of whether or not you would play it like that, it's an issue of what the BRB says, and the BRB is VERY (admittedly, probably overly) generous with cover saves.

The 50% rule your citing applies only to MC and vehicles. The TWC is a calvary unit. This means that as long as any postion of the models body (head, torso, arms, legs,, etc.) is in cover, than the whole model is in cover. Now, if it was just a foot on the wolf in cover? Then yeah, I'd play -1 to the cover save. But the model would still get its cover save.

Double checking the rulebook yeah I was wrong. A foot in some cover is still in cover.

But looking it over they give different cover saves as well. So it is in cover but would it get the full 4+ for it? Intervening models is clear to a 4+ save but what would you play a TW model with say its head behind a wall but everything else is broadside to the shooter?

Well, personally I'd say it's such a small piece of cover that it should be reduced by 1. E.g. instead of a 4+ it's now a 5+. That is the sanctioned GW way to deal with these kind of questions.

When making an assault move, the FIRST assaulting model is required to move directly into contact with the closest model in the unit being assaulted, by the shortest possible route.

For models AFTER the first, the controlling player has more freedom, as long as he follows the list of requirements given in the assault rules.
