Yellin' Yoof on a Scooter

So I've been in the hobby for a while, and I've stalked the forums for a while. This is my first painting project of 5th Edition. I played a lot of 4th ed. with a decent Dark Angels army, but it kinda got nerfed by the change in rules editions. I am putting together this Salamanders army primarily for tournament play, as a busy schedule restricts regular games.
In this project, I hope to paint the following:
Vulkan He'Stan
Librarian in Terminator Armor
Six Assault Terminators
30 Tactical Marines
3 Rhinos
3 Tornado Speeders
2 Vindicators
2 Dreadnoughts
1 Land Raider Crusader
5 objective markers
Now a couple questions before I begin:
1. What Theme should I go for for bases: Urban or Volcanic?
2. How should I designate the different tactical squads? How should I designate Sergeants from troopers?
3. Objective Markers: the current ideas I have are ammo dump, fallen marine, weapons depot, shrine to the Mechanicus, Locator beacon. Any suggestions?
4. Does anyone have a good tutorial on making a mud effect on tracks? Anything on vehicle weathering?
First pictures will be up in about a week. Just need to make it through finals.

This seems to be impressive but it might take a while.
I'm not sure about all the questions but i can answer a few
1. An urban theme would look good with all the vehicles making look like a road convoy.
2. I have always thought that a tied up general or a demolished vehicle would be good, but an ammo dump would make it sound very realistic.
4. I'm not too sure on this but mixing a muddy colour such as scorched brown or graveyard earth mixed with a lot of modeling sand
love to see the pics

Sorry for the delay, just finished up finals. Here is the first tactical Squad. Will post pics of Vulkan and LRR tonight.
Sergeant
Marine with Flamer
These guys are the first batch, and I mostly concentrated on the green. Any suggestions in particular on the gold?

Salamanders are by far my favorite looking Space Marine chapter. A nicely painted Salamanders force looks great on the table.
I love the clean look to yours, not going overboard on highlighting. Really works with the green.

In my opinion, Salamanders are the perfect blend of fluff, visual appeal, and competitiveness on the tabletop. I just finished the Salamander book from Black Library, which has really gotten me motivated for this project. In terms of gameplay, they are probably the best loadout that vanilla space marines can field in light of the newer SW and BA codexes. Anything in particular you like to see in Salamanders?

I really like those salamanders!!!! They are probably the best I've seen. All the others have over-done highlights which make them look like they are cartoony and glowing (I don't really like highlights) or the colouris off, if it's too dark they will look like an odd chapter as most others are vibrant and clean, or they are too bright and look like they have their armour made of glowing plutonium. The bases look
great andthe colours dont contest with the marines.
Really looking forward to seeing more salamanders.

Not sure about the land raider. I'd give it a few more coats of green. Over a black undercoat, getting snot green to have an even coat is challenging, especially on big surfaces like on a land raider. The black could use a few more coats too.

@Loki: I painted it in different light, and it looked better at the time. That being said, you are completely right and I'm addition another coat or two this morning. I actually began with a white undercoat, then Dark Angels Green before Snot green. The DA green is a load of , and that is the real reason for the unevenness. The black will also get a touchup
