Howdy,

new Warhammer fantasy player here. I have played WH40K in the past, but have always been interested in getting started with WFB. I am organizing an escalation league to start in January or possibly February. Any players located in or near the Oklahoma City Metro area interested?

At New World?

We don't have any specific store sponsoring it. The last 40k Escalation League I was in was sponsored by one store and they had a monthly tournament at each level. I was not the biggest fan of the tournament style league, because if you missed that day for some reason you were unable to get any games in at your point level (and if you have a big group, somebody will usually always be unable to make it).

We were thinking about having everybody arrange at least two games against someone each month at whatever location is best for them (your favorite FLGS, your home, etc...) and maybe have a monthly tournament as well for separate bragging rights and fun scenarios.

Based on how many people we have, where they live, and interest of the stores we may be able to rotate the monthly tournaments between the different stores.

New World and Games HQ are the two main ones I can think of with enough tables for a tournament, but I am always happy to be corrected if it means we get a new store.

I do need to head over to New World to put up a flyer about the league. I am trying to set up a simple forum on my website to talk about the league, pick armies, decide on rules, etc...

New World has really good tables and terrain. I play at the one on 29th and Sunnylane.

I'd be interested and could talk to Tom/Darrell about it.

Cool,

personally I think the more places we have available to schedule games the better. I also try to at least purchase partially at my FLGS where I play and help keep them around. I have played at a nice local store that was only 5 miles from my house, but it ended up shutting down. So if there is a good place to play, I try to support them.

If you are heading to New World this week, can I email you a flyer to post?

Where do you live in OKC?

I live about 3 miles north of Quail Springs Mall. So I think New World and Game HQ are about the same distance.

There is a new little store by Western and NW 50th, they would have enough room for two people to play, but I don't think they could support a small tournament.

I am still setting up a small forum (my site crapped out, so I'm going to use Runboard to set it up) to talk about rules for the league, who plays what army, and such. I send a PM to one of the mods to see if it would be okay to post a link.

Can't help you in that area; I live in Norman.

Is there a good store in Norman to play? If you would participate and come up to OKC to play, we certainly could have a game day in Norman as well to repay the favor.

There's a small store in Norman with a couple of tables; however, when I play, I play at the New World on S. 29th St.

As for a league...I'm not a competitive players to I probably won't be interested.

No problem,

the previous escalation league I was a part of was pretty non-competitive and actually pretty laid back. It is hard to play over-kill armies at 500 and 750 point levels. They are mainly just a fun way to start a new force, get motivated to paint, and a reliable source of getting a few games in.

I am pretty non-competitive as well, mostly because I usually end up loosing anyways, so I have learned to play for the fun of it.

Much the same reason that I'm not competitive.

I think I got the ok to post a link to our forum where I posted the rules (or the ideas for the rules to be exact) for the league, as well as a small section to talk about the armies and a place to schedule games.

I just started to organize on Tuesday, and it looks like we may have 4 people that are interested in participating in the league. If you are interested please sign up on the other place as well and post what army you might be interested in playing.

I'm thinking about fielding a new army of drunk angry short guys (otherwise known as Dwarfs)

Went to New World today to put up a flier, looks like a much more active GW community than Game HQ, so I'm happy about that. They had 1 table playing WFB and 2 tables playing W40K tonight. I mentioned the escalation league to Tom (I think that was him) and they seemed interested. We got 4 folks playing right now, but form the sounds of it we could pick up a few extra folks form New World. I would really like that.

Tom is the owner and guy always wearing a Dallas Cowboys cap.

Darrell, the other manager-type, was there tonight to some extent I believe. When were you there? I was there between 12-5 ish playing a Warhammer Fantasy tabletop game. =)

Yay for my scribe, who has survived glorious combat to become an apprentice wizard with access to petty magic such a "Lights!" and "Magic Dart!!".

I'm good for games as long as we can schedule them on our own rather than have a set in stone night for play.

I was there from 6:30 to shortly after 7:00.

I think scheduling your own games would be the best way to go. If we throw in a couple tourneys we would schedule them on a specific game, but other than that I think everyone would meet up on their own to get their 2-3 games a month in.

Please post on dakka or shoot me a PM if you are organizing any tournaments in the okc area. We've got a pretty regular gaming group down in the lawton/ft. sill area and would love to hear about possible tournaments.

PM send. I think we might have the first tournament at the 500 point level in the 3rd week of December.

Allright, we will have a kick-off meeting this weekend. I will be at New World on Friday at 6pm until ??? to talk to everyone about the rules, get to know everybody, find out what armies everyone is thinking about playing, and just have some general fun. I am trying to have a similar meeting at Game HQ on Saturday and I will post the time once I find out.
