So the Entry for target locks says: This specialised target acquisition system enables the model to target a sperate enemy unit to that engaged by the rest of its own unit. All firing in the unit must be declared before any to hit rolls are made. One Target Priority test is made for the unit - if passed, all the separate shots are taken; if failed, all shooting must be taken at the nearest target, as specified by the target priority rule.

So my question is now that the target priority test rule is gone do i just get to pick my targets and fire or is this peice of equipment now illegal?

The equipment is fine. Ignore the Target Priority.

So basically, the model with it can fire at what he wants (declared before anything in the squad shoots, of course).

Opinions are somewhat divided. The rulebook FAQ tells us that if a rule in a codex written for a previous edition refers to something that no longer exists, to just ignore it. How that appies to this specific situation is a matter of debate...

Some feel that, as it requires a Target Priority test to work, and TPT's no longer exist, you ignore the entire rules entry for the target lock, and so it does nothing.

Some feel that you just ignore the part of the rule that specifically refers to Target Priority... so the target lock works just fine, and you just don't roll for it any more.

Some prefer to take a median route, and add a house rule that requires you to pass a Ld test before using the target lock, in place of the Target Priority test.

I go for the second option, personally. YMMV.

Me and my group have never questioned using it any other way than the second.

Since it tells you to target everything before taking priority, I say you just skip priority.

My gaming group will go with the second, though nobody ever really uses target locks.

Battlesuits should never really split fire, usually whatever you're firing at you want dead. The exception to this would be fusion blaster suits. You would want to split fire as much as possible to do the most damage to enemy tanks.

Split fire with broadsides on rhinos is pretty amazing. You have a 75% chance to hit with an 83% chance of penetrating it and a 66% chance of at least immobilizing it. Split fire from missile pod suits against raiders is pretty nice too

Right on there, I forgot about broadsides. Then again, a.s.s. is also pretty nice with the broadsides, though I completely agree with you.

Sigh... a.s.s is very handy in a tourny considering there is always a damn DoW deployment at some point and Tau cant really afford to lose a turn of shooting. But sadly the tourny Im playing in this saturday is only 1250 and i cant afford it.
