Hello, I was just wondering if tyranid warriors are actually worth their points cost, and if any, what upgrades should I give them?

As one great broodlord once said; "NOOMM!!!! NOOOMMM!!!! ME WANTS MORE ELDAR!!! With a little tau on the side and some guardsmen for appetizers if you would please waiter..."

No, they are terrible for the most part, which is a shame considering how cool they are. If only they were tough 5 with 2 wounds, they would be awesome.

Anyway, as they stand they are ID bait and with the plethora of missiles and lance weapons out there they just get gutted quick.

They are slow, shoot OK but if equipped right are actually badass in combat....if they ever get there. But then when you factor in the cost they just suck.

Take Genestealers, cheaper, better, faster, more options.

Shrikes can be OK but are still overpriced. Really, warriors just suck nuts. Pass on them if you have the models to take other units.

Warriors are fine. At any rate, they're a good fire magnet as with Bonesword, Sacs, and Talons, they tear most units a new one. As infantry models, they can get cover without much issue, yet they're large enough to grant cover to most Monstrous Creatures behind them. With 3 wounds, they're relatively resilient to torrent. Yes they die to missiles, but if they were T5, nobody in their right mind would send missiles towards Warriors.

If they were tough 5 no one would send missiles towards Warriors? Hahah, OK, interesting reasoning I suppose, although it lacks any reasonable logic. But you are entitled to your opinion.

But really, Warriors suck. For the points: a warrior with sacs, bone sword and lash comes out to 50 points, more than a TH/SS terminator.

3 Genestealers with sacs are 51 points. Same amount of wounds, twice the attacks, faster, infiltrates, can outflank, higher WS and In, and can hurt vehicles.

No contest.

Warriors need to be either toughness 5 with 2 wounds so that they are actually resilient, or they need to be oodles cheaper.

No offense MagicJuggler, I just really disagree with you on this point. I have tried to make Warriors work many times and they fail epically. When they do actually work, they shine as with their close combat kit the tear gak up, but more often than not, they are garbage.

Primes on the other hand, are the cat's meow!

The entire point of a multi-wound T4 creature is that S8 instakills it. Given the option of shooting Warriors with my Missiles, or shooting Tervigons/Trygons, let's just say the Warriors would get the Autocannons instead. Assuming the Hive Guard were already neutralized, that is.

IMO in synapse they shouldve kept EW ... I think it mightve saved the nids for me ...

Who *took* Warriors previous edition though? Seriously? The Elite Slot was "3 more Boomfexes."

Good point, Warriors have sucked for three editions now.

I always use Warriors. Since I have so many already built as DS/ST I still use them. The only thing they need is cover. Put 10 gaunts in front of them and there you go.

Last fight I threw out 6 with ST and Boneswords. They were fired on mercilessly by Dark Eldar, but took fire from three units for 2 turns. IN the end, a unit of Incubi got into CC with the last one and it still killed 2 of them. But that fire they took let the rest of the army get into position ad end up beating the hell out of the Dark Eldar.

The only really bad thing about them is they are susceptible to ID from common weapons, really Battle Cannons for me. It is just about getting a cover save, and Warriors are almost always worth their points.

I made my Warriors into Shrikes with dual boneswords. I find a unit of 4, while pricey at 200pts, can often deal a beautiful amount of damage if you use them as a counter-charge unit. Don't put them at the front of your onslaught, give people better things to shoot at in the mean time and there's no reason they should ever be without at least a cover save. Further, I love the minis I made for them with FW wings and that one guy's swords.

I've actually had rather good luck with my Warriors. People always cry how Str8 Instagibs them, but I find they don't attract as much Str8 despite that because most Str8 is being directed at my Tervigons/Tyrant/T-Fex/Ect. The exception to this is Guard with their Str8 Large Blasts. Those just obliterate them.

Otherwise I tend to run 4-6 Warriors with Deathspitters and Scytals. I've made up a second unit of them, and made up some Venom Cannons for the two units, but I've not gotten around to painting the Venom Cannons, and thus not used them yet, so I can't say how well those work. They're mostly intended for fighting Dark Eldar where I'm gonna need a lot of stuff that can mess with their multitude of light skimmers.

I've got plans to make 4 or 5 Warriors with a Bonesword, Lashwhip and Devourer each. Or possibly Scytals instead of Devourers, though I think I'd rather have the shots for the turn or two before I get into HtH rather than the couple extra rerolls in combat. These guys will get podded in more than likely in theory, and force you to deal with them or they rape your face. They'll also be good against a couple of the local Blood Angel opponents where I can sit them behind my main Gaunt screens as a great counter charge unit.

Interesting, thank you for the input! I'll try to run some warriors in the next game I have.
