Has anyone ever tried using old Imperial Guard heavy weapons gunners as Sentinel pilots?

If it would work, it would probably be cheaper than Forge World's Tallarn Sentinel kit.

It sounds good, I have one in the gunners seat of a custom basilisk

The torso should fit onto the plastic pilot if you cut him in half (the plastic body) in the right spot and fill the void with GS or something.

I've not done it, but it should be possible based off the pieces of other 2nd ed IG heavy weapons crew I do have.

I was going to try this for my Tallarns... the idea was to have three Tallarn sentinels, one with the rather distinctive forge world driver and the other two using different gunner torsos.

Hopefully I'll have a FW Tallarn sentinel coming this xmas, so I'll be checking how my spare gunner torsos fit onto the FW driver legs before I get another two... it'll probably need some green stuff as chromedog says. My only concern is the arms and how they'll look with the levers in the cockpit.

I've also considered using a gunner torso for basilisk crew... Just convert the hands to look like they're holding binoculars, and pin/greenstuff the torso to an infantryman's legs. The mortar team loader with his hands over his ears would look good as the second crewman. It'll be a while until I get the time to try this though!

Nice to hear from someone else working with these guys!

Right back at ya.

I've always liked the Tallarn. Both of the plastic armies are so, well, crappy looking. The Cadians don't suck with nearly the same ferocity that the Catachans do, but they both look goofy.

Any of the metal IG were better looking.

I have a few Tallarns. I use the mortar crewman with covered ears as [definitely not a POLITICALLY CORRECT model] demolition charge markers - they've been modelled with extra packs and pouches around his body. The other lasgun crew are part of my CCS (with a headwrapped commander. In a "TE Lawrence" vibe) his 'native' bodyguards.

I love my Tallarns too, and I wish they would make some new kits for them akin to the robed dark angel veterans. I looked at my basilisk again and I remembered wrong about my gunner. I used the metal legs from an old Cadian HW gunner and the plastic body and arms from a newer tank kit (for a heavy stubber crewman)
Also thought I'd show you my sentinels. In the dark days of second edition sentinels and land raiders were very much like the storm raven is now. They had rules but you were on your own modelwise. I got these walkers from some other company but they had solid canopies like a fighter jet. I cut back the canopies leaving a bit for a windscreen and added crewmen. The squadron leader is an old guard tank commander bit and the other two drivers are roque trader era rough riders

I remember when the metal Sentinels first came out with assault cannons!

Maybe someday the Tallarn will get some more love from Forge World, but I'm not holding my breath.

I have a fairly sizeable Tallarn army (first true love in 40k ) and I have used the tallarn gunners as sentinel drivers personally, and they work fine, minimal conversion work required.

Also, they work great as gunner for the top hatches for Russes, etc.

Pride of place for sentinel drivers is the Tallarn FW heavy weapon torsos. They make awesome drivers

It's probably harder than gluing a Tallarn heavy bolter gunner in the seat though. We will have to see about it.
