Here the simple fluff for the Nids army I'm planning.
It's one of the arms of the Leviathan Hive Fleet, and they encounter a Ordo Xenos research facility conducting experiments on captured Nids. The Leviathan Nids overrun the facility and the captured Nids are absorbed into the Hive Fleet
Not to complicated a story IMHO, and it allows me to have a army with some unique looking units with different physiology, color schemes from other Fleets and best of all test equipment still attached (electrodes sticking out of their skull, busted restraints, etc).
I assuming the research facility Nids would be absorbed into Leviathan structure. Is there anything the fluff that prevents that from happening?

No there is not any fluff preventing that happening iirc. Also old one eye and the swormlord have been seen in different fleets to their origianal one. I like the idea alot

IMHO I think the Leviathan nids would just gobble them up, and re-make fresh ones.

Reabsorbing is very literal for nids, they are digested and recreated. So they'd lose harnesses and stuff, but the color scheme could be maintained.

I see. I guess I've have to rethink my fluff.

The Tyranids on the planet that were captured would simply be re-absorbed by Leviathan, and spat back out in Leviathans colours.
