Okay, General Tau builds will not use Sniper Drone Teams nor Skyrays, and they should always use pathfinders at this points level. I prefer that all the suits in a unit have the same weapons. It makes the unit more effective because they have one task to do, and they do it more effectively. Not only do I keep them the same, but I try and put on weapons that go well together. Not troop killy and heavy anti-armor killy. Your commander and his retinue are kind of everywhere. I would give them equipment so that they not so varied. I would suggest making them all fireknives, deathrains, or something else, as long as they all have the same loadout. I wouldn't use crisis suit bodyguards. I would put them as a crisis unit in the elites slot, and that will save points on them. The bodyguards are 10 points more expensive. Beyond your crisis suits, I would get a unit of pathfinders. I would also upgrade all your devilfish to warfish by giving them Targeting Arrays, Multi-Trackers, Disruption Pods, and SMS. You need more railgun in this list, so I would find a way to get more broadsides in. I would suggest getting rid of the sniper drone team and the skyray to get more points for them.

See I actually wanted to have a diverse army, which is why i mixed squads with anti amrour/infinatry, so any of my crisis suits can take care of any problem and I don't have to rely on one squad to do one specific thing..
As for the sky rays, the reason i put that in my army is because I can see horde armies being a problem for tau, and the sky rays missile system seems a decent way to counter the large masses of units.. from anywhere on the table
Don't sniper drone spotters and pathfinders have pretty much the same equipment anyway?.. or am I missing something?

You're not missing something.
Spotters do have a markerlight, but a pathfinder unit has way more.
So with pathfinders you can increase the BS of many units.
Skyrays won't do anything to hordes. They have only six seekers, so that is a max of six seeker missile shots a game. Hammerheads are much better for the job. The railgun submunission is a large blast template Str. 6 AP 4, and it will clear out light and medium infantry really well. It will actually do most anything better than seeker missiles.

Skyrays are actually cheap markerlights. Sniper drones are good for pinning infantry. It just takes a more skilled player to use them properly which is why they aren't suggested for beginners. The skyray is definitely a model to try though.
Your crisis suits, except for your shas'o, are illegal. You can only use 3 out of the 4 hardpoints and you are using 4 atm. If i'm reading your normal crisis suit teams correctly your using like 5? The model can't even support 5 hard points.
Before tackling the list again with adjustments i suggest you check out advancedtautactica.com. Amazing site. No doubt the best for tau. They have everything there and take the game very seriously. Also check out some threads here via the search bar. Read the codex thoroughly before editing the list again. I'm sure you'll be amazed at all the stuff you'll learn. Oh. And i cannot stress THOROUGHLY enough when you read the codex.
Have fun!

Yeah, daBIGboss, they're messed up.
bodyguard 2)
Multi tracker
twin linked missile pod
plasma rifle
Should be listed as:
x2 Bodyguard: TL MP, PR & hard-wired MT
It's clearer that way.

3 crisis battle suit’s

2 x plasma rifle
multi tracker x 3
All translate to a model with a TL gun (which is 2 hard points) another gun and the MT. That's 4 hard points, as daemon pointed out. Plus, I'm little confused as to how they're actually supposed to be. I'd re-list them.

This is actually the decidedly wrong philosophy for tau. Have something with a focus so that it does that one thing well. Anti-Tank or Anti-Infantry. Even a FK is focused in purpose, anti- MEq and tough models ( MCs). Still, run them and see how it goes.

Oh crap, thanks for reminding me about the hard points, I was a little mixed up about it, looking right at it you would say it could take on 4 hard points...but rules say 3 -.-'

I took a look at that site, in the 'building an army list section' and i must admit it helped heaps !
I'm revising my list now so should be up very shortly, thanks

SMS is pretty bad on hammerheads imo. Burst cannons are cheaper and get two more shots... I consider them better than 6 inches more range and a nice-ish special rule at double the cost.
Beyond that, why no markerlights?

Better, but still in need of a couple tweaks. Save a few points and down grade from 'vre to just 'team leader', still giving access to wargear. Vre's stat upgrades are otherwise worthless. daBIGboss wrote:shas’vre upgrade

You'll save a lot of points if you change this to:
TL-FB x3, one with Team Leader upgrade, hwDrone Controler, 2 Shield Drones Bonding Knife.
If a suit fails an Invuln, it is likely to be from a Missile Launcher, LasCan or Pfist, meaning Instant Death. Better a ShieldDrone takes that chance. Bond the unit as the BK might rally two suits if they should fail morale. Now, I know a GunD could take that harsh wound, but it dies automatically ... unless you've got Cover Saves. Which is one reason why I don't bother with ShieldDs for my suits. There's usually a Cover Save available.
daBIGboss wrote:Devilfish transport

smart missile system Switch TL to an MT. There's no point to a Target Lock, as it is likely that you want all 7 dice at one target. The MT is so that you can move Combat Speed and fire 7 dice.
daBIGboss wrote:Hammerhead

Smart missile system T.B. is right. For less cost, more dice, Burst Cannons are better.
daBIGboss wrote:3 broadsides

2 x shield drones The same 'vre' upgrade versus Team LEader. And Bond 'em.
