Battle Missions. I feel that Apocalypse, Cities of Death, and Planetstrike all require too large an investment of time and models, specific terrain, or time and energy than most players have. Battle Missions, other than the one mission where a player may use a Thunderhawk, require no more from the players than an ordinary game would, for the most part.

apoc:
just the funnest, not too messed up in rules, whole range of exclusive models, more freedom. Can get tedious when playing with the disorganised little 'uns, but you get MORE DAKKA! 9/10
cities of death:
fun IMO. always liked urban-style games, and some good special rules. Shame no-one at my FLGS plays it. 6/10
planetstrike:
okay, but some races just can't play it well. Some good rules and scenery, but all you need is to buy 20 aegis defence lines and you have a lot of free AC's and LC's. Died down after a month or so.
4/10
spearhead:
Never try to do an entire expansion in a codex. As far as i'm concerned, it is the same as 40k, but you get a load more tanks and extra rules for them. Apart from the release day, no-one at my FLGS played it. 2/10

JB: I like the concept of a free Shrike roaming through the treetops of the jungle. I'm not sure that I like the idea of a real Shrike sitting on my couch eating my Skittles.

Cities of Death. But really only becuase buildings became so important to aquire and utilise in our set-up rather than the actual rules. (Oh, and the introduction of Vostroyans!)

Apoc was fun for a while, and indeed it's great when friends aren't feeling too serious and are either looking for a casual group bash or an interesting campaign climax, but if you're not doing it with people you like the silliness and fun of it came be taken away very easily.

When it first came out I loved the original cityfight. At the time there were no core rules for what it did and it shook a lot of things up. It was great.

In Your Fridge.

For me, Cities of Death.

I see what you mean in apoc, one time in my local GW we were playing apoc and people could just come and go really. In the first turn we killed a massive awesome mega stompa thing and the guy (about 25 years old) got a little annoyed and just decided to bring it back on, getting all pushy and that. And because that happened, some guy on our team decided to bring on his like 20 assault marines and it just got ruined.

Maybe it was because of the come-and-go idea but i think it was because of silly people who spent all their money on something massive, then bragged about it for weeks, only for it to get destroyed on the first turn. Then he got pissed off.

Back on topic, I like cities of death because of the fighting happening on all different levels, and there is some pretty awesome stratagems.

My order of favourites, going from best to worse:

Apocalypse: Awesome expansion, really allows us to show what 40K is really about.

Cities of Death: Awesome too. Urban battles and strategems were first introduced here and added such a great twist to the game.

Planetstrike: A bit one-sided to the attacker in almost every respect, but still fun nonetheless. The addition of new bunker terrain was also a good addition

Battle Missions: Big disappointment. Apart from very few mission specific rules, nothing fantastic. Just similar missions, the only difference being the deployment areas.

Spearhead: Thank god GW released this for free, as I would not spend a penny on this bull****. All we get is a few Apoc style detachments and three new missions which, like Battle Missions, are exactly the same, but have different deployment areas. Pathetic release only there to promote the new Fire Prism and Leman Russ models which were released as well.

Stupid question but, do any of these mission books contain the missions found at GT or 'ard boyz tournaments? or are they their own separate thing.
