I would love some ideas on what the trim and shoulder fill colors should be for my marine army.

This is a picture of the yellow i am using. The white parts i need some colors for.

What about the white? It seems to look alright.

if you don't want them to look like imperial fists you should decide because really any yellow army is going to be mistaken for them unless you do something drastic and different for the white parts you have marked.

but first maybe decide on a background for your army or what is the name of your chapter? you could get some colors from that...

They are the Sons of the Storm. They emerged from the warp with no information or knowledge (that they were willing to share) of where or when they came from. They were initially to be destroyed becuase they couldn't be trusted. But after personally saving a system of important planets they were granted the same rights as other space marine chapters. They are currently on a crusade to find home-world. They specialize in line breaking. In battle they choose a target and destroy all in there path to reach it.

And your right harsh reality. I will give them more differing color to separate them from the imperial fists.

Now these spots need to be filled with color. Hopefully brighter colors becuase i will be using army painter quick shade and i want colors that will stand out after the shading.

I quite like yellow with black, but I'd be inclined to replace other areas of the armour with the other colour... like upper leg armour and/or helmet.

If you used yellow and black however you'd have the problem of them looking like the emperors scythes...

Have a look at a colour chart and see what colours go well together!

Some of that is quite similar to what I where considering to include in my SM army (I decided to go with something else though )

As for the colour scheme; I'm not particulary fond of yellow myself, but I think I would paint the white areas some other shade of green

What about something like this?
Adaptus Battle Grey for the dark grey parts, Astronomican Grey for the lighter parts and Hawk Turquoise for the eyes.

i think you should stick with the first template and see how a blue would work with it. but i think having a black and white checked shoulder pad would also look pretty cool.

First one out of those two is alright, the second one not so much.

How about orange?

Out of interest what website or program are you using to get these colour schemes, I have seen it before but forgot to ask.

If I am not in my room, is it still my room?

Bolter and Chainsword has a painter program.
Does Space Marines, Terminators, Chaos Space Marines, Tau Fire Warriors and Sisters of Battle if I remember correctly.
Not all the same program but a group of them in the same section.

No not orange. Im looking for a color that is a stronger contrast. To me orange and yellow together =dull

Ill put up a picture of them with blue as a secondary

I think that blue and purple it too eclectic. I reckon stick to maybe two colours; yellow and i reckon regal blue like this:

Then the base colours you could easily hilight up as necessary.

And i quite like the idea of a black and white chequed shoulderpad on his left shoulder (the non blue one)

I like the Yellow with the Blue shoulderpads. Looks like Raptors before they got green-afied.

I would advise that you keep things simple - stick to varying the color on single elements (one limb, fist, knee pad, etc.), trim, and/or halves/quarters of the whole scheme. Anything beyond that and you get a disjointed appearance. Even if you're consistent throughout the army, things will look disjointed and cluttered.

To be brutally honest, all but the earliest schemes offend my eyes (maybe I need to turn my monitor's contrast down - that blue one hit me like a sack full of LEDs) and my artistic sensibilities. Of course, they're your models, do what you want, but I think most people will agree that when the models are on the table, simple, unified schemes are far more visually appealing, coherent, and generally impressive. Try not to overreact and make them SO different from every other army that they don't make visual sense. Best of luck to you.

personally i say go with the last one you had up here but put the blue in the knee pads and on the outline of the shoulder pads and on the top vent of the helmet. or just one if you want to change it up a little bit maybe to signify whether or not they are part of a specific unit. But before you decide on anything paint up a test model and decide if you like it or not. Because even though it looks good on this you might decide differently when you put it on a model.

I like that.

I think i might go with this but the shoulder fill for the shoulder without the blue trim differing for different placement and rank.
e.g
Blue-Tactical
Red-Assault
Green-Devastators
White-Scouts and Apothecaries
Purple-Veterans
Black-Commanders

Instead perhaps of a complete shoulder fill which could throw the colours off maybe have a single vertical stripe of the colour you want, and then you could put more stripes for the higher ranks up to three stripes on the pad.

Just another thought

"I like being shorter than the average person, makes the enemy work for their target "

"All is fair in love and war... unless someone comes along with a bigger weapon, then its not fair "
