Is it going to ruin the way the transparent portion of a cockpit window on eldar vehicle looks when it has been varnished with 'Ard coat and then Matte Varnished? If I just wanted an ultra glossy appearance and only used 'Ard Coat would that be any better? I have never varnished a transparent plastic piece .. maybe I am being overly cautious. I just don't want it to be hazy or anything.

Would not recommend using them on clear parts
and mask the canopy with Tamiya tape before spraying

Use Johnson's Futur/Klear or similar. Not sure what modelling clear acrylivc varnishes there are availble tbh as always used the floor polish.

Not sure about the ardcote but the matte will screw it up I afaik.

That was what I was afraid of. Thanks for the feedback.

The clear parts have not yet been glued in yet. If I had floor polish, would you just have it painted on the parts of the plastic that are painted the colour of the rest of the tank and not the exposed clear portions?

Does anyone know if 'Ard coat alone is a problem on the clear parts? It is my fiance's tank, I am just doing the painting. Despite my hate of glossy finishes, I think she is pretty dead set on keeping it super shiny so if that isn't a problem then that would make life pretty easy.

Yes, any kind of varnish/gloss/dull will cloud clear parts.

EDIT: well Im not 100% sure about brush on gloss/clear...just easiest to use painters tape and cover any clear parts before you do any top coat.

Could you test it on the clear flying base? (are they the same type of plastic?)

FYI
Don't use cyanoacrilic or model glue on clear parts. They will haze some times. I use elmers glue for clear parts.

good luck

Hmm, I suppose I could have tested it on a flying base. Maybe I will try that.. or I can just tape it off too. Although the portions to tape off are very tiny and I was trying to be lazy and avoid having to be finicky and cut out the right shaped portions. I guess it can not be helped. Better not compromise on the girlfriend's minis or I will pay for it.

Thanks for the last bit, Dwerger13. I actually was going to use model glue without even thinking about it. The more you know.

Personally I dunk the clear parts in the floor polish which protects it from CA glue fumes

You could use it as a final gloss varnish and just paint over the clear part

YES, the flying stands use the SAME clear plastic as canopies.

If in doubt, test your stuff on the bases first.
