All I am saying is; you can't call someone something when your doing the same thing.
Unless, of course, I'm the Kettle and your the Pot.
If you can't tell the difference between noting how you are limiting what art is with hypocrisy I don't see how this conversation could bear fruit. I would even go so far as to say you don't even really know what you think art is. It is just something you take for granted that everyone understands but no one ever explicitly says.

You know, I suppose I should state what I think Art is, shouldn't I?
Art, True Art, is not a Painting, is not a Song, is not a Video Game (if you are amonst those who argue for such things; I am not). Art is not something that is ever truly "cashed in on". Sure, Art Imitators are cashed in on, but they are not really Art. Art is not something you see, Art is not something you hear, Art is not something you experiance.
Art is something you feel. There can be no real definition of Art, because different people feel differently about different things. Art is something that makes you just know what the Artist was trying to convey. That is why Art can be shared between cultures, but Songs, Games, and Paintings can not. A true peice of Art, be it a Song talking about Love, Revenge, Hatred, Despair, or even Hope, A Painting that shows a Crime of Passion, of Lust, of Battlefields fought long ago, speaks not to the senses, but to the soul. You may not understand the Artist, you may not be able to understand his language, but you can understand his Art.
Art is receiving a peice of someones soul in a physical sense, and That is why I do not respect any artist that allows someone else to write their songs.
Now, what about you? What is your definition of Art?
I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

Have you heard 'Twist And Shout' by The Beatles?:
Are you telling me that you don't receive a piece of Lennon's 'soul' in that vocal (ignore the video, the audio isn't from it) performance? Seriously? The guy was coughing up blood after recording that. He means every word.
'Twist And Shout' was written by Phil Medley and Bert Berns, and first popularised by The Isley Brothers

So no opera singer is performing art?
What do you make of a song writer who has a soul that creates great melodies and lyrics, but has a terrible singing voice? Apparently you place them in the 'not art' category next to the singer who is a great and impassioned singer, but who has no talent to write songs.
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.
Wagner? Aural assault, but not what I'd call 'art' (I challenge YOU to sit through the entire Ring Cycle and still believe in a higher power afterwards.)
But then, I do not understand 'art'. The concept of it.
I also do not understand 'soul'.
I know what I like though, this is enough for me.
The rest of you can argue the merits of what is or isn't 'art'.
I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...
... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.
I am pretty disgusted that people find it acceptable to create another thread just to keep a ridiculous argument going over what someone thinks is art! Then you start an argument over what 'true' art is!!

Well, as they say there's two kinds of people in the world; people who love Wagner and people who love music.
I guess I'm more intrigued by the idea that Pavarotti wouldn't be considered an artist.

I think of that song writer as a good song writer, but not an Artist. As with that singer.
Anyway, It would appear that I am not the one "doesn't even know what he thinks Art is". Thread has served it's purpose. (And I'm just posting past /THREAD to spite you )

Art is whatever the viewer perceives it to be, whether you like it or not. Telling people that "MUSIC ISN'T ART LOL" Doesn't make it any less so.
I, personally, view some video games as works of art. Hell, it's certainly more artistic than most forms of modern art that sells for millions.
