Greetings, everyone.
I am new on this forum. I´m playing wh40K for tyranids, but also thinking abou playing warmachines for mercenaries. From the warcasters I´d like to have Captain Bartolo Montador. Most Bartolo lists i found on the web are Talion Charter. But can be good for playing also a Bartolo-list in The Four Star Syndicate or The Highborn Covenant contrats with also other then prevateer models? I was thinking about a list with Croe´s Cutthroats ot Devil Dogs, but most interesting for me is Is Alexia and the Risen. I like the look of an army with pirates and undead. Here is a list I tried to write:

Captain Bartolo Montador -5
Mariner 8
Mule 8
Sea Dogs Crew 5
Lady Aiyana & Master Holt 4
Alexia Ciannor & the Risen 5
Master Gunner Dougal MacNaile 2
Doc Killingsworth 2
Lord Rockbottom 2
First Mate Hawk 2
Gorman Di Wulfe 2

What do you think, could this be a good list? Or what should I change?

I personally play Bart outside of the Talion Contract all the time.

My only thought with what you have listed is that you have a lot of solos that support the Sea Dogs, and not a lot of sea dogs.

It's not a bad list at all, but you need more bodies on the board for Alexia to zombify, and 6 Sea Dogs are probably not going to be enough, and solos are a poor choice as fodder.

A full unit of Sea Dogs with Mr. Walls would work better for you in those regards methinks.

That's the only downside to the pirates: They have a lot of possible synergy, but they need their complement of solos to really do it well.

OK, so Mr. Walls and four more sea dogs, that makes 4pts. Which solos do you think I should remove? Aiyana & Master are very good for Kiss of Lylis, MacNaile is great for shooting bonusses for warjacks and I think he is also good for shooting from Mariner´s gun, becauce he cannod be killed by templates, Doc gives the privateers tough rolls on 4-5, rockobttom gives for the sea dogs aditional die for attacks, Hawk for damage, Gorman can protect the caster with his smoke bomb. Maybe I should remove Gorman but I really don´t know which other model to put out.

Drop Lord Rockbottom and Doc Killingsworth. The privateers don't have tough so Killingsworth won't help.

Swap Lady Aiyana & Master Holt for Eiryss to bring you to 35 points.

Rockbottom gives the privateers tough, so Doc will help there, and as all the privateer solos have tough, Doc keeps them alive longer.

Also, Montadore himself has tough, and coupled with Batten Down The Hatches, can not be knocked down.

An non-knockdown caster with a 4+ tough is pretty wicked.

Make two lists: One with Ayana and Holt, one with Gorman and McNaile. Depending on who you're facing, swap the two in and out.

Ayana and Holt's best ability is to give people magic weapons to hurt incorporeal models (and get around some effects spells). Most of the time though they're a wandering pair of stealth pow 12's.

All good advice but he needs to clear five points to include 10 Sea Dogs and Mr Walls.

George Spiggott:
You are right :( I miscalculated it, thinking that full unit of sea dogs is only 7pts. Is mr. Wall relly so necesary to play with sea dogs? The Doc could be really helpfull. This dependance on synergies makes it more dificult to make an army list.

That's one of the pros and cons of the pirates: Dependency on the solos.

And personally, i do think Mr. Walls is worth it, but realize you don't have to be locked into one list. Start with what you have, see if it works, and what you might want to change/try differently, and go from there.

I haven´t bought any of the modells yet, just planning to buy in near future. I just don´t want to buy more models and then realise, as one of my comrades did, that some of the units need a totally different army-composition.

Anyway, what do you think about taking a unit of press gangers insted of sea dogs. They are cheaper, stronger and tough (so maybe taking rockbottom wouln´t be so necesary), but they have no shooting, and their shanghai ability depends on having a sea dog crew.

Also the devil dogs have a nice ability to throw an extra die to damage models which are knocked down could work good with bartolo´s feat. Or are privateer units with few synergies still an better option?
