I'm building an Imperial Fist army. I was trying some alternative builds and I would like to run a squad of Stern guard with Lysander in a drop pod. Im new to Space marine armys but not to 40k and need some advice on how to build the squad. I'm going to kitbash plastic kits to make them because I lothe non-IC metal models and am willing to magnatize weapons. I would like to make a versitile 10 man squad that I could run as a 10 or just 5 or two combat squads. taking advantage of Lysanders bolter drill should I keep a majority with just bolters? what's a good ratio of speacial weapons (I dont need any more heavy weapons in my army so thats out)? Whats a good ratio of combi's? Plasma or melta? How should I build my sgt.? I'm completly open to sugestions

I run a squad of 10 with 4 combi-meltas and they rock. The nice thing is that you can combat squad and put melta on 2 targets if you want to. I'm not convinced that they need combi-flamers if you're using Lysander, since twin-linked special ammo will fill that same function more or less.

Melta is the way to go, IMHO.

For all out destruction you want to take 5 combi/flamers and 5 combi/melta (basically combi/flamer/melta in a 1:1 ratio). I would say at the minimum you want to take three of each.

Are you sure that you can take lysander in a drop pod as he is sporting terminator armour?

I don't know about the sgt. conversion.

I agree with MR.

Keys to a squad of SG in a pod are:

A)Taking the full 10, so you can combat squad on arrival and shoot two things.
B) Taking enough combi-meltas to reliably mess up a couple of tanks. Personally I think 4 is a little light and a bit of a gamble. 6 is more reliable.

10 man.
10 combis.
5 of one, 5 of another. Depends what you're fighting but yeah. Meltas for vehicles, plasma for high T targets, flamers for hordes and general infantry roasting.

Ah, I forgot to mention that Vulkan is in my army.

He makes 4 combi-meltas, barring any sort of statistical dice-related nightmare, just enough. Without the twin linking I'd bump it up to 6 as Mannahnin suggested.

When I designate my sternguard as a suicide squad, I never skimp on the combi-meltas. For 5 points a man, there's no reason to not go ten combi-meltas.

If they are drop podding, its to get in there, kill armor, and then make the enemy devote units to remove them. I would never trust 2 melta shots to kill a land raider or a squadron of IG vehicles.

If there dosn't seem to be a worthwhile target, I deploy them narmal and drop the pod empty. If the combi's go unused then oh well, small investment wasted.
