Nasty Nob on Warbike with Klaw
|
Just saw True Grit. It's the best western film since Unforgiven. Yes, 3:10 to Yuma is a close second, but it was marred by uneven pacing and Russell Crowe's over the top performance. It's so rare today that American films have accurate period dialogue and accents. (Remember Kevin Costner's butchering of Robin Hood?) I would recommend it to anyone.

Is it as good as the western with Viggo and Ed Harris? I do not recall the name, but it came out a fairly recently.

Really? I thought the characters that Christian Bale and Russel Crow played, made that movie. Although it helps that that there was good action scenes as well.

Appaloosa, and it was a terrific movie. Really good ending.
I hated 3:10 to Yuma, the world was terribly contrived, and the only character who's actions I could believe were Russel Crowe's, and he was meant to be crazy.
I'm really looking forward to True Grit, it looks marvellous.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I would like to see it after hearing that Jeff Bridges did his own version of Rooster Cogburn, and not try to imitate John Wayne.
Figured as much that Little Fockers was gak, after seeing the previews, I really got bad feelings about it.

He was?
To me he read as arrogant, but in the sense that he was so capable that anyone that lacked sufficient perspective would view him as overestimating himself. Dude wasn't crazy, he was playing games simply because that's what made his life interesting.
Though maybe someone openly said the character was supposed to be crazy?
In any case, another solid Western is Open Range.

Thank you! Open Range is a highly underated Western. Duval was great in there, Costner was pretty good and it was one of Michael Jeter's last movies.
I loved the scene wehre Duval catches that guy through the wall with the "scattergun"

I loved all the gun fights in that movie, because they treated cover in a reasonably realistic way.
But yeah, Costner did well there. He's sort of like Reeves in that he can only play one character, so its simply a matter of putting him in the right movie.
