A corelation of many firsts. My first army, first attempt at painting and modelling and my first blog.

So, naturally, the unit in question would be designated the "1st".

In my "fluff", Norefou is a mostly ignored garden world that got lost in the grim darkness of the Administraum with only a small PDF and Imperial Guard presence, where the natives have advanced to a sort of rennaisence era level of technology. While not required to provide tithes of any sort, due to there being no records of the world at all in the databanks, asides from an "Record not Found" (hence, Norefou), a regiment of Imperial Guard is being formed by an adventure seeking local noble. While on most other worlds, people are conscripted en mass, on Norefou people are volunteering. This is probably due to the over-romanicization of the ' Endless War in the Divine Emperor's realm" ejaculated out by an entire generation of bad playwrights and poets. In short, the nobles join the guard simply because it has become fasionable to do so.

Norefou "Bluebloods" as most of the trill seekers joining are noble. The peasants have more things to worry about, like staying safe on a peaceful world.

My first squad of infantry.

Stuck some chain mail on, to go with the theme. Working with a wetted spoon and toothpick, so its quite rough.
Then realized that I had no metallic paints.
Left the flak vest there, as I figured that they would wear the vest over the chain mail.
I would think that higher ranking soldiers would get carapace armor.

My Vox-op for the squadron.

Note that he's not wearing mail. Had to remove it after the glue from the vox unit pulled the damned mail off the figure.
Went for a dark shade of non saturated blue, for the "Bluebloods" Also because that was the only tube I had at hand at the moment.
The inverted "T" on the shoulder pad is the Infantry insignia. Simple and also because I cant do fancy brushwork.

The Fusilier Line Infantry
Comeing from a nobleman's retinue, this one considered is a trained soldier on Norefou. But how will he fair in the Imperium at large?
Front

Back

I had actually wanted to go with a kettle hat, but it was beyond my modelling capabilities.
I do like how the shield turned out though.
The grass is actually green tea. Yep. I refuse to shell out that sort of money for bleedy shavings.

The Line

I tried to give them oughly the same poses, as they should've been trained this way.
I tried to give the helmets some varaity, raning from open faces to the more enclosed bacinet. I have not, however, been able to pull of a beaky.

The Marksman and the Jester

On the right, is our redoubtable marksman, with a sniper-las made your standard lasgun attached to a bit of sprue. The scope came from a chip off my glasses.
Once again, my attempts to make a kettle hat failed and I gave him a beret instead.

On the left, is the jester, a sad incident where my friend tried painting one, and thus the color scheme deviated from the norm.
I'll name him 'Merry Gaye Fargot"
With that color scheme, he'lll be first to be shot.

Esquire Redsark
The larconic leader.

Instead of sergents, I went with "Esquires" fitting the theme.
With his higher status, he affords plate mail (not carapace) over hiis flak vest.
tried to make one of those venecian caps, but the results are ambiguous. I can't fdecide if it looks like one, and while I was looking it up, the epoxy hardened.
He's also got a heater shield on his arm, a relic from his pre enlistment days.

All together now!

Well, that's it for now.
Next up is probably the command squad, or perhaps a commisar.
I'll have to scratch build one, since Singapore doesn't sell them, except Yarrick and I don't want him.

Please do C&C.

Earlobe deep in doo doo

Great work with the greenstuff. It might save you a lot of time if you acquire spare Lasguns and use fantasy or historical humans in this style instead.......

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

That's a good idea, though where I'm from, Fantasy models are more expensive than their 40k cousins. Plus, I'm rather miserly. =D
Still, I could look out for discounts or 2nd hand models.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

The Blueblood 1st Infantry Squadron is battle ready!!! Finally!

Ot was more diificult than expected to lay my hands on a can of sealant and finally managed to scrounge a half filled can of matt from the local bicycle shop.
At least they look a little less shiny now.

The Command Squadron Veterans

The command squadron was tempting, very tempting. To blow a whole lot on points on the bling of war, and weapons that I woulddn't want the commander to be close enough to the enemy to use.
I settled for a carapace (thus, plate) scheme though, figuring that 20 pts for outfitting the command squad was worth it.

I used tamiya "quick" for the plates, as green stuff is ridiculously expensive here and tamiya is more available.
I then smoothed the plates with vaseline and an improvised metal "ear-spoon" , which seemed to work well enough.

Faulds and kneeguards added

Adter adding them and smoothing them, I tried to engrave some folds in the "metal".

Then disaster strilkes.

While trying to clip the banner off the the pole, the whole damned thing twisted off. I'm sending a compliant letter to the mechanius. Honestly, the quality of banner poles they produce nowadays...
It's soon rectified by...

a paperclip, or at least, a bit of one.
Drilled into the hand, and poked by own fingers.
Still, managed to force the clip in, though it bent slightly. Sad looking isn't it?

All we needed was a manly banner.

Once it's done, it'll look fit for battle, and if not, at least fit for golf.

Trying to sculpt a kettle hat.
not going too well, but I;ll try at least for this one.

The Unpainted Product.
front

back

Mr Veteran looks like he;s wearing a woolie and not a metal kettle. Oh well.

Then disaster stikes again.
I'm out of carbon black.
No prime no painting. Great.

That's it for now I suppose.
If you have any suggestions, don't hesitate!
