I have a ton of lett over bits from my lizardmen army. I wanted to do a 40k army, and long ago, loved my Khorne army. I was thinking of doing a Khorne army with aztec flavor. They'd have the lizardmen swords (Macuahuitl) and the Macuahuitl on poles...Plus the banners and icons from lizardmen would adorn the army too.....Also, I'd use many lion and fur pelt capes from Elves and empire (jaguar skins and heads), blood angels sanguinary masks (very mayan & aztec), the blood angels bolter attatched to armes, some sideways mounted crests with feathers instead of bristles (all gw bits miond you), lots of severed heads as trophies, many bear heads with top knots, and I have special jungle & also aztec ruins bases to put them on....I also want to mount several on bloodcrushers and use Forge World Khorne upgrade kits.......any additions, thoughts, or the like?

Ditch the death masks. The Aztecs were big on costumes and headdresses, but didn't use much in the way of actual masks in their rituals. You'd probably be looking at various animal costumes (jaguars and eagles, primarily), with open faced helms.

I honestly don't think the paint scheme would be very visually appealing, as the mix between marines in leopard print and marines in feathered costumes would look like something out of Liberace's nightmares.

At least the BA's have wings. Aztecs get silly capes and eagle hats the size of a beach ball.

DAs actually have feathers adoring some of their armour... By that I mean literal bird feathers dangling on ropes and chains.

I think your paint scheme should be more of a khaki and bone than a blue. Khaki and bonewhite would look somewhat like like animal hide

This idea is excellent. Aztec art was vibrant, thus I think the color scheme ought to be vibrant. But the palette was also limited to very pure colors so that is something to keep in mind, if you want it to emulate the feeling of Aztec art. For example:

Dont let naysayers who only want to see boring marines dilute you idea. All your ideas are cool. I do wonder if the Lizard men stuff would be the right scale for the marines.

Rather than pure aztec, how about a Khorne sub-cult obsessed with vicious animals (believing them to embody the natural spriit of Khorne). Lots of animal/alien trophies (to honour worthy opponents), animal icons, etc...

This might be offensive to some Hispanic/Latino players.

However being one of those players, I had the idea myself. GO FOR IT!

Here is a pic sample of bits I was thinking of using. Of course the main bodies are khorne beserkers and chaos FW termies....The Land Raider and rhinos and dread would be decorated with lizardmen glyphs and banners leftover from my Lizardmen army....I did find aztec jaguar helmeted heads on ebay too, although I would still use some khorne helmets and bear heads with top knots on them....flesh would be darker too....! I'd have no feathers, but a few fur capes here and there, some black, some patterned........

Hmmm, i'm glad to see that someone else has had a similar idea, albeit with far more depth than i got to! All i've managed is: Aztec/south american themed 40k army. The fact that you've got the lizardmen parts to make the details real is an excellent start. I think a palette of red and oranges would mesh the khorne/aztec themes, with bold patterns to echo the shields and weapons. I'll be watching to see how you've done it so I can emulate your good ideas!

This stuff would work so well on Orks.
