Hey folks,
I just started reading the above-mentioned novel, and I just stopped after roughly 40 pages. Is it just me, or is all this book contains "White Scars are proud (fiercely!) and win!"?

I know there are a few novels that have a rather annoying start but then become interesting from page 80 onwards, and I guess what I really want to know is whether this book is worth working through that annoying bit.

Will there be some actual character development and an actual plot that consists of more than "Hulk-Smash!"?

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.

It gets a bit of a twist, but no... how ever it was still a fun read, you dont get to read much bike warfare books.

The hunt for voldorius is set on its course in codex SM, maybe there was not much to add?
Would not be so bad if you don't know the outcome and basic storyline beforehand.

It was kinda meh. The parts with the human rebellion on... that planet their on was the only part that stood out for me, although the way the raven guard way described was quite good (most of the time). Maybe not something i would recommend buying but its still an ok read.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I had a thread that said the same exact thing a little while back. It's not a good book and dosen't do alot of justice to the Chapter and was a dissapointment to me because I like the White Scars. The whole "The tiger squats in the forest" thing was rediculous, Chogorians want to talk in code? use the language of Mundus Planus not cheesy wanabe haikus.

You know you have a problem with a book when the main antagonists in the book, the white scars, are no where near as cool as the allies they are paired with... the raven guard.

The black rage is within us all. Lies offer no shield against the inevitable. You speak of donning the black of duty for the red of brotherhood; but it is the black of rage you shall wear when the darkness comes for you.

Oh yes, that code talk stuff was completely silly, too. A friend and I used to use stuff like that as jokes when sending text messages, for example this:

"The eagle circles above the meadow!" - "The rabbit is out of his hole!" - read: I am at the meeting point - I am on my way.

Guess I am not going to continue reading it, then, since there are so many better books in the world.

I was a bit disappointed too, but then I was hoping for more Raven Guard involvement.

Overall, an uneven but OK book...

Just finished the book. The Raven Guard were pretty cool of course, but I agree the White Scar stuff wasn't that good. The constant references to their tribal / homeworld customs was a bit much.
