In the fluff of the game during the Golden Age and Dark Age of Technology humanity built metal men. But those metal men turned on humanity and a war was fought with them. In various codex's and novels it is also said that the Emperor put the Void Dragon beneath Mars in the Noctis Labyrinth. In the Necron Codex it mentions that terrible secrets where ripped from the Void Dragon during the Golden Age which would lead to the Dark Age and war with the Metal Men.
So did humanity create its own lesser Necrons? These metal men that started the war and where eventually defeated by the Humanity?

No. They created AI. The AI turned on them. Big war. Humanity won (survived) And never built AI again. The machine spirit is a kind of semi-AI as it can do things but only within it's programmed limitations.
The Void Dragon basically made anyone on mars obssessed with technology. Although he might have influenced them into building AI. They weren't Necrons by a long stretch.

Well yeah.
It's basically the plot of terminator except without the going back in time bit... and it's in space.
They weren't Necrons but the design may have been influenced by Mr. Dragon but they definatly weren't Necrons.

If you do it would be totally awesome. Maybe use some kind of clear plastic to make the water sphere?

In the "Gaunt's Ghosts" series one of the main characters finds an STC that is a generator for these metal men although it has been tainted by chaos.
the couldn't be necrons because necrons are like anti chaos or just anti warp......

The Iron Men are robots with AI. Necrons are sentient beings trapped inside a living metal shell. The necrons are probably far more advanced, the Void Dragon at the most just inspired a love of tech in the martians.

Iron Men don't stand a chance against Colonel Commisar Ibram Gaunt!
Yeah anyways, the distinction between iron men and necrons is a matter of whats behind the metal.. AI or OI (organic intelligence)

Mankind creates AI's to do its tasks. Said AI's becomes self aware and decide to try and destroy it/their creators. So not really necrons as they were never living beings to begin with. Pure robot constructs that decided to wage war on humanity.
