Good afternoon all (or whatever the local time makes it when you happen to read this)!

I'm a new member and new player that just joined Dakka after lurking for several weeks. A few months ago a friend and I, on a whim, got the AoBR set. After a fair amount of head scratching and hurried assembly we managed to get a "game" in. I use that term loosely- really we had a session where we spent a lot of time following what we thought the rules said while rolling dice. We've had a few more rounds and are progressively getting quicker at the whole process.

We're starting to branch out beyond the AoBR set and it seems that I get the priviledge of fielding an Ork horde to put the silly space marines out of their misery (really, who wouldn't be miserable with all those rules and procedures getting in the way of a good fight?).

As such I'm sure I'll be soliciting feedback on Ork tactics (such as they are) along with good additions for a fledgling Ork army. In the meantime, any primers, links, or particularly helpful resources you might see fit to throw my way would be most appreciated.

Ultimately, while my friend is pretty well sold on his smurf army; I'm not 100% sure that Ork is going to be my "forever" army. Probably more of a first girlfriend type of setup- something I learn the ropes with and enjoy, but move on from (but hold a special spot for because it's my first). In that vein I've picked up both a Tyranid and Dark Eldar codex to get more breadth in terms of my familiarity with anything outside of SM and Ork. Any thoughts/insights on either force that I should be aware of?

I'm located in the south east corner of New England in a Boston suburb known as Rhode Island, and am starting to look around for FLGS that are at least semi-competitive with online sales for supplies and units. I recognize the value of a FLGS in terms of community and places to play (among other things) but I refuse to pay GW list prices when I can find them at 25% off without even trying hard. Any guidance anyone has on that front would be well received by both myself and my friend.

I think that's probably quite enough for my first post- I apologize if it's excessive in length and/or off topic as an introductory thread.
