Hello fellow Dakkaites (is that really a word? lol) I have come to you for help, and some inspiration. Aspiring to own a Gaming store once I retire, I have been given the go-ahead by the accountant (wife) to collect giant 40k armies. As such, my Nurgle army has begun to grow to a horrid size Anyways....

I currently have two Plague Towers that require occupants. Looking over all of the Apoc stuff, I have decided upon 14 oblits in each. Thus I keep with the sacred number 7 of nurgle, and appeased Papa Nurgle. However, seeing as 14 of same model (well, in reality 28) would be boring....I'm reaching out to the community to see what people have used for their Oblits. I've seen a number of termi conversions, which have all looked great, just not sure if I could pull it off myself. I was thinking about using some of the battletech/mechwarrior models and adding some GS and bits and such to make'em counts-as....I'm just not sure on their scale. Which models would be the appropriate size for oblits? Which ones do you think would look good? If not these, what else would be a suitable count-as for Oblits.....or do you know anywhere that has good alternate models? Or a decent tut on making my own.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

not sure on your feelings about going outside of the GW model range however I really like the PP bloat thrall as a nurgle counts as orbilt

I'm more than okay with going outside of GW. Those are pretty cool looking, except it looks like they're a single pose. Although it does give me an idea to take Ogre Kingdoms leadbelchers....other than the single pose problem again.

Putty some weapons onto Terminators? Those work just as well and are worlds cheaper.

+1 vote for the converted ogres idea - they look suitably nurglish, even more so with some extra greenstuff bloating, warts, pustules etc. And although the basic torso is single-pose, you' can cover most of the body in armour and rusted techy bits anyway. Just convert the cannon to a bizarre high-tech rusty cannon of some kind.

Yeah, I'd definitely have to take a look at what bits/kits I'd have to mesh with the Ogre Leadbelchers to make them suitable. I've also considered some of the Jacks from Warmachine.....right now, I'm open to all ideas.

As far as converted Termi's go, unfortunately, all of my termi's are being taken up by my Termi squads (7 squads of termis in LR's) and the Doombringers (about 50 other termi's) so picking up even more might be a bit of a stretch :S

Some random termy bits, especially shoulder pads (and maybe helmets) would be good to use when armouring ogres - I've always liked the theory that oblits are mutated ex-termies.

anyone know if the termi bits would be too small? Ogres ARE pretty big after all.

I've been converting my AoBR termies into oblits, though I confess I'm an amateur modeler. There are a couple different leg poses in them and they ought to be more available as TH/SS termies models are in-demand and the AoBR are StormB/Pfisters, less in-demand.

As for the Nurgle aspect, isnt GS just awesome for creating whatever you want?

(pix shortly, maybe)

Grab some of the older oop oblits, use currents and use conversions....will save some time and make a nice variety to represent the millenia

Just checked with the actual models, and alas those ogre shoulders are too wide to fit inside a termy shoulder pad, but:
- I reckon the shoulder could be trimmed down to fit - yes, the body would look swollen around the pad, but to me that suits nurgle mutation
- or if you can do the 'soften plastic in boling water' trick, the pads could stretched and flattened slightly to better fit the ogre shoulders

There are of course the plastic daemon prince sholder pads they've got out now. I wonder how those would look...

Just checked - they're a bit too large, both in dimensions and their inner curve, but could look good if cut down and placed over swollen nurgly flesh

Not all Obliterators were originally space marines mind. You could go for one that was originally just a human or the like (there was a magos one in Storm of Iron as I recall). Maybe base it off of the Scions from Mass Effect 2? http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Scion

You're right, not all of them were formerly space marines. The magos from Storm of Iron being a perfect example. Hmm.....

I also remember someone using Techmarines as Obliterators.
