Was liking the idea of a talos in my DE list. I am not a fan of ravagers and was wondering if a talos could fulfil another anti vehicle role (i am building a trueborn venomblaster squad) in my force. Is this feasible? Can i rely on it's CC to wreck vehicle? Should i give it the heat lance upgrade? Cheers.

The problem with using a Talos is that it is slow, has 3 wounds, and only has a 3+ save. Unless that thing is coming out of a webway portal, it is not even going to get close to a tank. Even then, the WWP is still not a guarentee.

If you want alternatives to ravagers for anti-tank, try reavers w/ heat lances, scourges w/ blasters or heat lances, even.

I would disagree with just disregarding the Talos. 3+ armor is okay for a monstrous creature, T7 is what makes it feasible. Plus a twin linked Haywire blaster for 5 points more is ridiculously good. And when it gets a pain token, it becomes an absolute monster. Even if it dies first turn, that's less firpower directed at other troops.

Well, I wouldn't say troops. Since it is T7 with 3+ it isn't going to get shot at by lasguns (can't wound) or bolters (wound on 6s). It is going to get shot at with missile launchers and lascannons. Which isn't too bad if you have a fair number of skimmers to draw fire from. Since it has 3 wounds, and will draw the big strength single shot guns, it is going to take more than one unit firing at it to reliably bring it down (even 4-5x ML units will miss or fail to roll 3+). It isn't really going to draw fire from auto cannon type shots, since his armor is too good, it wounds on 4s, and they are better at taking out FF skimmers than single shot weapons.

I would really like to make the talos work myself, but giving up HS slots for it is hard to do.

I would take the talos out of a webway portal with a haywire blaster. Why not the heat lance? The heat lance has an efective range of 9, only 3 inches further then your charge range. If you charge something it will die. But the haywire lance will moast certanly lock down something and you have a better choise on what to shoot at.

Good advice from all, i would agree the haywire blasters seem a good pick. Just gotta figure out a way to get it a pain token quickly and practise using the WWP.
