So I'm going to buy some 40K stuff on the 27th(boxing day sale) and I'm trying to figure out what I should get for my Space Marines. I plan on getting a Landraider, and a couple other things as well. Unfortunately I'm not sure what else to get. How useful are Rhino's? I know a transport is a good idea, but are they really worth their points?

Right now I am running:

HQ
Chapter Master Artificer Armour Power Sword Hellfire Rounds Melta Bombs Digital Weapons
Troops
Tactical Squad, 10 Melta Bombs Flamer Missile Launcher Teleport Homers
Tactical Squad, 10 Melta Bombs Flamer Missile Launcher Teleport Homers
Elites
Terminators, 5 Assault Cannon
Sternguard, 5 Combi-Flamer Combi-Flamer Combi-Melta Melta Bombs
Fast Attack
Landspeeder, 1 Multi-Melta
Points Summary:
HQ: 180
Troops: 380
Elites: 375
Fast Attack: 60
Heavy Support: 0
Total: 995

I have a Predator Annihilator which I plan on adding to my list at 1500 points, and I plan on buying a Landraider Crusader, but what else should I buy? Are the Rhino's worth it? Should I get a vindicator instead?

For the rest of what I own for my Space marine army it includes two Tech-marines, one librarian, a bike squad, two additional tac squads, an assault squad, a rhino, Predator Annihilator, and a whirlwind.

Dont get the actual Rhino Set. If you can, see if you can take off stuff from the Pred and Vindi to use them as Rhinos. However I concur with Harshr3ality, Rhinos are a must. Also, dont run meltabombs, run Meltaguns and combi-meltas instead.

Or just don't glue the hatches/gun mount in place

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

All rhino-chassis kits have the rhino top hatch.

NEVER buy a rhino - Razorbacks, preds and whirlwinds are all easy to swap between those configurations and rhinos.

The Rhino is an excellent transport, and a very worthy addition to any Space Marine force. If you're not playing MEQ now, if you make the switch, you will notice a rather large difference in how long your marines survive...MEQ is king in 5th edition, and vehicles are much more survivable and very cheap compared to 4th edition.

There are many tactics with the rhino, from using it as a transport, to using it as a wall for your Tac Squads. None should be discounted, and all can work in the right situation.

As Scott as said however, buying the Razorback/Whirlwind kits will allow you to have a Rhino that can be swapped to either of those by changing the top hatch for their respective parts. Can be achieved by magnets, or simply not gluing it down. I prefer the magnets, but that's simply a personal choice.

----

Make sure to field several however. A lone Rhino is nothing but a trundling kill-point, and will get gunned down by enemy AT fire long before it achieves it's goal. Several Rhinos will get alot more of your Astartes to their goal than would have otherwise, and Razorbacks will add some cheap, dependable and sturdy firepower.

Razorbacks are the best buy. getting 6 means that now you have the option of running any combination of Razors and/or Rhinos. Don't get Whirlwinds for thsi purpose, you can do the same thing to the predator, it costs less (at least in Canada) and is much more useful than a Whirlwind.

Well I ended up picking up a Landraider Crusader, and two Razorbacks the other day(gotta love boxing day sales). I also picked up a bunch of rare earth magnets so that I can switch between Rhino and Razorback if I so choose.

Just dont glue the top hatch. No magnets are needed for Rhino -> Razorback changes, which is why that option is so appealing.
