Someone asked me this yesterday and I got very panicked :S

A Pariah's Warscythe has a built-in Gauss Blaster. I always assumed that if you upgrade a Necron Lord's Staff of Light to a Warscythe, it also counts as having a Gauss Blaster. The Codex FAQ specifically says that you lose the ranged attack of the Staff of Light, but I thought that they would get the shooting attack from the Gauss Blaster, mainly because the model for a warscythe has a Gauss Linear Induction Chamber (Green Rod).

Does anyone have a definitive answer to this?

Does the codex state you get a ranged weapon? No? Then you don't.

I don't have my codex in front of me (classic dakka line) however I can answer your question.

If you read carefully under the equipment options of pariahs it states that they are equipped with "warsycthe with built in gauss blaster" or something to that effect.

The upgrade for the lord says something along the line of swapping a staff of light for the warscythe.

In short, pariahs have the gaussblaster shots in addition to the CC bonuses of a warscythe while the lord can only use one or the other.

That's it in a nutshell. Pariahs have a Warscythe with a built in Gauss Blaster. Lords just have a Warscythe.

Sorry, it was me doing the "teach a man to fish" idea - witht eh basic one being "look at what your codex states". Its the best start for this....
