So, I wanted to see what would happen if I played around with Haemons with units aside from Wracks & Grotesques.
My troop choice of preference (when using Haemons) is still the Wrack, so I decided to play around a bit with other things (Elite's & transports).

I know this is light on the shooting. My point here is to try an "in your face" HtH army with some backup for armor.

The list totals up to 2001 points but, as it is for my private group only, the extra point is not an issue.

Ravager w/ Flicker Field

Everything is FNP, with the Wracks being FNP & F-Charge.

The idea is to keep the Ravagers back and target up to 3 enemy armor per turn. Failing that, High T or TEQ models. After delivering their payloads, any remaining Raiders will join in. Surviving venoms will target (a) enemy units with crappy armor (b) smaller enemy units or (c) combine shots on larger enemy units (in that order).

The incubi charge towards the highest priority infantry targets.
The Wracks go after secondary targets.

My only worries are the Incubi slaughtering their foe on my initial charge. Power armor & FNP or not, that would be bad. LOL

I don't want to change the premise of the army, but I'm very interested in hearing tweaks for it.

Thanks.

Eric

I don't think you have alot to worry about with your incubi and haemo assaulting and splatting a unit off the charge.

After some pretty fast math-hammer it would seem that your unit (after shooting into and assaulting into cover) would reasonably lose combat by 1 to a "like costed" genestealer unit led by a broodlord.

Without the grenades or fleet I think that unit is above par of course, but I wouldn't worry about it destroying a beardy unit outright.

Narrows down what can be said.

The big issue I foresee is popping armor so you can assault. Literally everything in the army is based around killing infantry. Just on a purely strategic level probably all the Raiders should focus on anti-mech on Turn 1. 3 Ravagers can damage vehicles pretty well, but there's a difference between damaging them and popping out the contents.

Just for more anti-mech options I will note two potentials.

1. No less in theme with your build would be dropping one pile of Incubi and taking either some Trueborn with lances or Blasters *or* (slightly more in theme currently) perhaps some Scourges which could be given some Haywire Blasters for good anti-tank so the Ravagers can focus on transports.

2. I will also note that for about the same number of points you could drop a Wrack squad and replace it with 3 Grotesques (Aberration, Liquifier) which would have a lot of wound allocation fun and also, via furious charge, would be assaulting at Str 6 with 13 attacks, which ought to put a dent in almost any vehicle's read armor.

Some thoughts,
Thor.

: )
Thanks for the input.
You are, of course, right about the grotesques.

I love them with haemons. I'm actually purposefully TRYING to "build away" from them to see how other options work with haemons.

Metagame info:
I should have also clarified that I don't see a lot of Mech in my group. There are 4 of us, and we tend towards having the same likes and opinions. We usually see a balance of foot & Mech in the same army, or foot heavy. Rarely ever is if heavily mech and, when it is, it's usually Rhinos.

We don't see Tyranids played a lot. They're available, but not currently one of the top played armies.

Most often, we see Orks or MEQ (all varieties) with the occasional Daemon or Eldar list dropped in. IG, every now and then, too.

There is typically an abundance of heavy weaponry. So (in my group), with an army like DE, you need to get your guys in there fast. If I sit back & open up armor on turn 1, on turn 2, a large portion of my units will be running across the field. LOL That's why I'm relying on the 7 vehicles with Lances to take out Mech.

Eventually, though, I plan on trying out a "stand and shoot" ranged DE army, just to see what's up with it.

Also you won't see me assaulting into cover, if I can avoid it. LOL

Thanks for the input, guys. Keep it coming.

I'd personally drop the Klavex upgrade and the demi-klaves. Those two upgrades alone can net you a decent amount of extra points. I'm a huge fan of blaster/trueborn or beast units. Have you given beast units a go? They are a very in your face type unit and with the rending flocks you've got a decent chance at dropping armor and surviving the return fire. Just some random thoughts. Deep analysis would change the flow to much and I don't know your playstyle enough

I'm up for a deep analysis.
My playstyle tends towards HtH or HtH with good shooting. I usually try to play balanced armies. I don't make a lot of forays like this (almost solely HtH), so it's a bit "off the wall" for me.
I haven't tried beast units yet, but I'm not opposed to them. Just... haven't.

Thanks!
