Hey guys been playing the vanilla marine list below and would like some advice on units to swap in/out now I have some xmas money to buy some new toys.

HQ
Librarian
+Terminator Armour, SS
140

Troops
10 x Tactical Marines, missile launcher, meltagun, Rhino w/ Hunter killer missile - 215

10 x Tactical Marines, Missile launcher, flamer, Rhino - 205

10 x Tactical Marines, Missile launcher, flamer - Rhino - 205

Elite
Dreadnought
+ TL, ML
145

Dreadnought
+ 2x TL AC
125

5x Assault Terminators TH/SS
+ Land Raider Crusader w/ MM
460

Still getting use to the game but so far I have won twice lost once with the army (and the loss was against DE and I knew nothing about them along with some bad shooting rolls it didn't go too well). Landraider lib and termies are a bit of a magnet often dieing quite spectacularly but that usually leaves my 30 marines unharmed. However I do feel my army is all about holding one side shooting them to bits then dashing accross the board at the end to grab objectives. Which only half works.

Was thinking loosing a tactical squad + rhino for two landspeeders (HF/MM) and maybe extra termie extra armour for the LR and some other odd bits? Any other suggestions?

EDIT:
Also I was wondering can a 10man tactical squad take a razorback? Obviously they would need be combat squaded for anyone to actually travel in it but It would make for some interesting options

Personly i like armour superiority so id suggest picking up a couple Vindicators, some landraiders or even a couple predators. But if you are looking for more troops, you could try some Sterngaurd veterans, or some assault marines.

As for your list i have never liked double AC dreads since i have had bad luck with them, other then that, this list should fair pretty good, but with marines you generally need to get as close to your oponent as fast as you can so you can gimp there heavy more specialised units. an example that comes to mind would be getting an assault squad with jump packs to stop an IG heavy weapons team/ squad from shooting up your tanks while your tactical marines (in rhinos) go after the small blob of guardsmen that could be hiding a commisar near a voxcaster so you can completely ruin the moral of the oponents troops.

WAAAHG!!! until further notice

At 1500 points 2 tactical squads should do fine. IMO, if you are not using the extra space in the Crusader then use the Redeemer. Yes the Crusader can move 6 and fire everything. But with terminators inside I find that I am moving my LR more than 6 inches. I would find room for some vindicators and land speeders. Perhaps dropping a tactical squad and 1 dread would give you the points to that. Vindi's really do a nice job at terrifying your opponent.

The Libby+LR+Termies is indeed a huge investment. It kind of turns your list into a rock list. If an opponent can destroy your LR early on you will be severly gimped.

I would drop 1 tactical squad for two windicators.
Possibly do something like this

Libby = 100

Troops:
10xTacticals (MG+Combi-M+ML) = 185
Rhino = 35

10xTacticals (MG+Combi-M+ML) = 185
Rhino = 35

Elites:
5xTH&SS Termies = 200
LRC (MM) = 275

2xRifleman Dreads = 250

Heavy:
Vindicators (Blades) = 120

Vindicator (Blades+HKM) = 130

Or you could drop the HKM and and blades on one Vindicator along with a dread and take two MM/HF speeders

I cannot believe in a God who wants to be praised all the time.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with Tazz Azrael because Rifleman dreads (2xTLAC) rock. Its actually the other dread that I'm not 100% about. For me they should either be Rifleman of have MM/HF + Drop pod.

Really the rule for SM is that you need 1 troop choice per 500pts. Thats not to say that you need 30 marines. pdawg517 was right saying that 2 tactical squads will do but I've often seen people run this set up:

(10) Marines w/ Flamer + ML + Combi-Flamer
Rhino

(5) Marines w/ Combi-Flamer
Razorback w. LC&TLPG

(5) Marines w/ Combi-Flamer
Razorback w. LC&TLPG

I personally think thats the optimal set up for tactical marines at 1500pts (obviously changing the weapons choice around depending on your/their army.

Add that to the rest of your army and you'll probably have the points for 2x HF/MM speeders if you drop the bad dreadnought.

Bare in mind this is all just my opinion, but hope some of it helped.

IMO Hamani, the 2 tactical squads is better than your setup. He will get the free special weapon and heavy weapon. Using the ability to combat squad will increase his firepower. Now when I play 1750+ I bring the 3rd squad. He can still take the razorback's to double his firepower.

I really like scout snipers with telion, they always perform well and count as a 3rd scoring unit. Start them on an objective and/or in cover and theyre hard to budge unless someone gets in hth.
