The 36th Chamber of Shaolin

Hey folks, I am looking for a few recommendations for a new game in the New Year. I am looking to start painting a ton of generic fantasy figures I've amassed over the years, and want a fun game to throw them into.

I've seen Descent in the store a few times, and have a copy of the rules (thank YOU, FFG website!). I've also found a version of the Warhammer Quest rules online, but it comes off as a choppy/clunky experience (at least from the documents I found). Again I've got plenty of figures so I'm not too excited by boxes full of figures (especially if they don't scale well with GW/Reaper stuff I have already).

Can anyone recommend a solid fantasy hack/slash game that lends itself to quick play, preferably without a DM? A boxed game or a rulebook, either way, just looking for something fun to play with friends.

Yeah... I read the rules and liked them. Sub'ing the chibi characters for Reaper halflings and mouslings, critters and goblins galore. Cheap and easy!

The more and more I think about it, I'd like to find something that mimics Ghosts and Goblins, or other fast 2d games that aren't necessarily about getting through a maze. Plus, extra-deadly environments.

The version of chainmail that was released with D&D had really good rules, if you are familiar with 3.0. The only problem was that it was difficult to determine points for models that they did not make cards for. There was an internet final version of the rules somewhere.

BUT if your friends are cool with it, it is not too hard to come up with points for new models if you do approximate power levels. (Also the hill giant and the large red dragon are under priced so I would play them as 20-30 points more expensive than listed).

WFB armies: Wood elves, Bretonnia, Daemons of Chaos (Tzeentch), Dwarfs & Orcs 'n Goblins
40K armies: Black Legion, Necrons, & Craftworld Iyanden
