From the Dakka Ork Tak. Talking points are in bold.

The KFF is defensive in nature and can be useful to support a horde of Boyz by giving them 5+ cover saves even out in the open. It is somewhat expensive and its only for units within 6", however this ability does work for any unit that has at least one model within 6" of the Mek. This is one of the most compelling reasons to take the Big Mek as you are looking at the potential coverage of a single Big Mek with KFF to be an absolutely huge area as it balloons up to cover an entire mob of 30, where only a few boyz need to be strung along to be within 6" of the Big Mek.

Can someone point me to the rule that clarifies the "this ability does work for any unit that has at least one model within 6" of the Mek"? I checked the KFFs entry in the codex and looked through the "cover" section in the core rules. The core rules seem to state that cover requires at least half the unit needs cover for them all to be affected.

Additionally

The KFF also provides the absolutely amazing 4+ cover saves for any vehicle partially within 6" of the Mek. 5th edition even allows this range to be measured from the hull of a vehicle the Mek is riding in, so it is entirely possible to put a Mek with a KFF in a battlewagon and create a giant bubble of protection for several vehicles clumped together!

This is also a little unclear to me. Is this the same as movement measurements?

Thank you all for helping a new guy out.

As far as i can recall from various podcasts and ork players.

So long as one troop from the unit is within 6" of the kff then that whole squad gets the save. So say you conga line a unit from 18 inches away with one ork in 6" then they all get the save.

As for the second part

Its just anywhere within 6" of the hull. 6" from the rear or from the side or wherever you measure from so long as its starting on the hull.

Where the caravan shuttles roam
Where the war is immense
And the fights are intense
It's barbaric, but hey, it's home

Great! Thank you.
Now, when my friends start yelling at me about this rule
where do I point in the rulebook and smile?

In the very beginning of the rulebook (page 3ish maybe?) there is a small picture that tells you how to mesaure between units. Point him to that and then to the KFF's rules.

For the aura from the hull....somewhere in the transport section. It should read something like "if you ever need to measure to the embarked unit yadda yadda" (like say, a KFF)

Is it obvious that I don't have my rulebook on me?

Alright, the big one I guess is the line in the KFF entry.
"All UNITS within 6 inches of the Mek"
Even one model is part of that unit, so the unit gets the bonus.

Yes, it doesn't get more simple than that.

The hull measurement bit is on page 66 of the BRB under the "Embarking" heading. It is the last sentence before the bullet points.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Yup. To put it all together:

Page 3 tells you that when measuring the distance between units, you measure from the closest model in each.

Page 66 tells you that when measuring to/from a model embarked in a vehicle, you measure to any point on the vehicle's hull.

To get cover saves from terrain, or other units, you use the regular cover rules in the book. But to get cover saves from wargear or special rules, you only need to fulfil the requirements of the item in question. For example, to get a cover save from smoke launchers, a vehicle only needs to have used the smoke; not be physically hidden as well. KFF gives its benefit to any friendly unit in range.

Yes, frankly the rule is ridiculous but there you go.

The KFF is an epic piece if gear, and basically all your vehicles will get that save if you play your cards right. I don't play orks and I absolutely hate the fething thing.

Orks could teach the imperium a thing or two about technology that's for sure! Jam those smoke launchers up your ass.

Orks can loot wagons, why can't I steal a KFF from a big meks cadavar?

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

Because Ork technology doesn't work unless you iz a Ork.

Heh, It's probably been retconned while I wasn't looking, but I hope its still there.

I loved the whole basis Ork stuff shouldn't work at all, and the Imperial boffins have noted it as 'Ork Tech only seems to work, because the Orks think it will work???' Brilliant.
