Just decided too do two more armies (poor wallet ) and i've decided to do the Novamarines and another IG army (don't care much for xenos or chaos) but i'm having a hard time deciding between Death Korp and Vostroyans. Advantages: Vostroyan-a little good on the wallet and rather good army. Death Korp-Good army and tank heavy army. What do you think would be better?

Death Korp are rare but not as rare as Vostroyan armies.
Do Vostroyan.

Tanks in Vostrayan colours look ace.

Local round here has the leman russ tank company (10 tanks) plus 3 super heavies in those colours. Looks good.

But Vostroyans just use plasma weapons mainly. And you know what plasmas can do to you. But other than that, i guess bye bye to death korp.

Unless you're willing to buy some forgeworld books, there is no difference between DKoK and Vostroyans.

Just pick whichever model line you like better.

Vostroyans it is. What's there tactics though? Tank spam, infantry spam?

Infantry as vet squads in chimeras would be my guess. With a few hellhounds (or variation) and a couple of tanks in support.
Flamers and meltas are the special weapon of the day.
Not sure on heavy weapons but take lascannons and heavy bolters they seem appropriate.

Vostroyans are Urban Fighters IIRC.

-Vets (Carapace armor if you want to be fluffy)
-Chimeras
-Sentinels
-Demolishers
-Hellhounds

It's pretty much Mech Infantry, read up on Lexicanum about them, they are pretty hardcore.

A Leman Russ Demolisher is their favorite, it doesn't mean you can't have everything else in the IG Codex.

Really you can use anything, the armies are so vast thats theres plenty of variety within a regiment. While they may favor certain tactics, theres always room for flexibility.

QFT:

If you want siege, why not make a siege regiment, blob armies might be hard with Vostroyans though, so many of the same models, and they all are finely detailed and metal.

Don't let that discourage you though.

If you do end up making a Vostroyan army, I'd love to see how it comes out, they have always held a special place in my heard as my favorite IG Army ( )

I use DK models for my IG army and never regretted it.

Would it be a bad idea to scratch sentinels? Because in my other IG army i'm gonna have about 3-5 sentinels.

You can have whatever you would like in your army, Sentinels aren't a must.

What sort of Guard list do you want to run exactly?

Vostryans are a pain to convert though and of the armies that I seen for them, most just use the same models. Death Korps however has a wider range of models to choose from and are much easier to convert. =/

Mainly just a infantry kind of army. One manticore, one or two LR, and a couple hellhounds and chimeras.

Blob armyies are tough with Vostroyans, they love Veterans, and GW never made Plastic Easy to paint models, but by all means! Doo it up.

If you're really desperate you could use historical minis with bearskin hats to make things affordable. But they dont have all those bronze plate armor/bionics that vost infantry sport around. Plus they'd be smaller

Vets can lower the amount of models needed although you'll need quite a few flamer minis to cut up to make meltaguns

and now its a trilemma...

If you want to know the tactics and notoriety of these armies, I'd recommend you read Imperial Guard Rebel Winter and/or Imperial Armor Siege of Vraks.. and some WH40K comic Books...

/me thinks the DKoK commisar is the coolest looking commisar mini..

I know the tactics of the Elysian and the Vostroyans. I was just a little fuzzy on them.
