If you are like me and think 40k is an expensive hobby but always looking for a way to save a buck so you can spend it on whats really important...MODELS. That is why I am starting a Cheap A$$es guide to 40k!
I thought I would start off with an nice and easy range template and condition markers.

This is the GF9 range template that runs for about 7 buck.

This is mine that i made out of some foam core that was just sitting around my house. It can be made out of anything you like just make sure your measurements are spot on so you don't get accused of cheating. There is really no directions no how to make it, the picture says it all. During my last game I had a buddy tell me that I would not be allowed to use this during tournament play because its not a official tool, but they way I look at it the one made by GF9 is not a GW product and is unofficial tool as well and would also need to be measured for accuracy before the game starts.

Here are the GF9 vehicle marks that run for 10 bucks and you will also need to buy the Infantry marks for another 10 bucks.

Here are mine, again made from things i just has sitting around the house. These markers are soooo easy to make! Just go to this web site http://rocketshipgames.com/accessories/imperial-commands/ and hit print. I just happen to had a laminator but you could just glue them to some card board or some foam core.

There you have it, 2 nice and easy ways to save a buck! If Dakka Dakka likes my little cheap a$$ guides I will go on to show how to make a army case for 10 bucks, a display board for another 10 bucks (less if you have some of the mats already) and a game table for 60.
Thanks Dakka Dakka and tell me what you think.

+1 Str for like 5 points? To autocannons or assault cannons? Hell yea. Then the Reinforced Aegis upgrade for free AND the ability to ignore stunned shaken.. pretty much for free..
Other Dreadnaughts should just go somewhere and be a toaster.

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

Seconded. I need to hear about this $10 army case.

And, having never seen the army/vehicle markers, I am definitely going to follow your lead on handcrafting some.

“Who is to judge what is right and what is wrong? Great and powerful foes surround us; unknown miscreants gnaw at us from within. We are threatened with total annihilation. In days such as these we can afford no luxury of morality.”

$10 army case - Walmart pistol case. Can't find it on line but mine has 1 layer of pluck foam & 2 layers of egg crate. 2 of them easily fit my 3,000 point tau army including battlesuits & vehicles, just had to custom-cut the non-pluck layers.

Trade rules: lower rep trades ships 1st. - I ship within 2 business days, if it will be longer I will contact you & explain. - I will NOT lie on customs forms, it's a felony, do not ask me to mark sales as "gifts". Free shipping applies to contiguous US states.

And if anyone tells you that you can't use a foam core template because it isn't an official tool, make sure that they are using a GW range ruler or measuring tape and GW dice. Seriously, WTF? If I want to use a piece of whalebone with hash marks scratched on it, you can measure against it with a normal tape measure. Either it measures the same, and I can use it, or it doesn't, and then I can't use it, whether or not GW has produced it. It just needs to measure inches accurately (so GW range rulers are probably out, then).

I'm interested in the $60 gaming board. It'll be nice to see if I can replicate the results over here.
