So my brother and I had a little apocalypse game this past week, 3500 points each. unfortunately most of our terrain is with the club, so our terrain is a little sparse. here are the basic rundowns of the lists.

Marines: Ice Hawks
Lysander
Captain with relic blade
Epistolary Librarian with might of ancients and vortex of doom
Terminator command squad with apothecary, chapter banner, and land raider
Terminator squad with twin lightning claws and Land Raider
Terminator squad with thunder hammers and land raider
4 Tactical squads, 3 with rhinos
2 squads of assault marines, sergeants with twin lightning claws
1 triple las predator
1 autocannon heavy blotter predator
2 whirlwinds

Tyranids: Hive Fleet Behemoth
Hive Tyrant with Wings
Hive tyrant with 3 tyrant guard
both have paroxysm, leech essence, lashwip, bonesword, and sything talons

Setup:




Marines had turn one, and combat squadded the tactical squads. The rhino mounted elements moved forward and the assault squads advanced to fortify the line. The Marines opened up on the tyranid line, downing one carnifex, and half of each of the termagaunt squads.




The Tyranids advance, with the tervigon spawning 13 gaunts. The two hive guard units shoot at the line, stunning the las predator and killing a rhino. The gargoyles are short of an assault, so shoot and kill a tactical marine. The Biovores shoot and kill two assault squad members. The heirodule kills two tactical marines with the bio acid spray. The winged tyrant assaults and immobilized and stunned a rhino. The Raveners assault and kill two members of the second assault squad, and taking two casualties in return. The termagaunts on the far side of the table (by the window) assault a combat squad and kill two, while taking five casualties in return. The far hormagant squad charges one of the assault squads, and kills one two to the loss of 10 hormagants.

Turn 2
Two Landraiders, each with terminator squad move in on the far flank, shooting and putting a few wounds on the tervigon. The Whirlwinds wipe the squad of termagants on the hill, leaving the Prime. The close flank opens up on the Heirodule, wounding it twice. The dakka pred and far combat squad shoot the gargoyles, killing 6. The combat squad charges and kills 5 more, while taking a casualty in return. Lysander and his command squad charge and kill the tyrant while losing two members in the process. The second terminator squad, armed with twin lightning claws, wipe the spawned gaunts, while losing one of their own. Toward the center, the assault squad engaged with the hormagants kill 8, and lose 2. the other assault squad engaged with the raveners kills 2 at a cost of 2 marines. The squad that had their transport destroyed was killed, although they were able to take two more termagaunts with them. So far, the marines have taken heavy casualties, but the line is holding.

The Tyranids move up, and begin assaulting the rest of the marine line. The hive guard squads wreck a rhino and a whirlwind. The zoanthropes on the far flank wreck a land raider. The Heirodule assaults and kills the weakened combat squad, taking no wounds. The prime charges another combat squad on that flank and kills 1, while taking 2 wounds. The central hormagaunt squad charges the combat squad with captain and librarian, killing 2 and losing 10. The raveners finally manage to finish off everyone but the sergeant from the assault squad, but lose one of the raveners. The prime, his squad of gaunts and a squad spawned by the tervigon assault the lightning claw terminators. They Kill 2 terminators, and lose 8 gaunts. The far hormagant brood assaults the marines from the wrecked rhino, kiling 3 and losing 5. The Gargoyles and combat squad remain locked in combat, and each kill member of the opposing unit.

Turn 3
The las pred and combat squads put two wounds onthe heirodule, with 1 left. Whirlind puts one wound on the biovore brood. the 3rd land raider moves on and the hammer terminators assault the gargoyles, killing the brood,which wipes out the remenants of the combat squad. The Unengaged assault squad charge the hive guard, putting a wound on a member of the brood. Lysander charges and kills a zoanthrope. he last lightning claw termnators are killed by the prime and gaunts. The combat squad kills te other prime, losing 3 members of the squad. The assault squad sergeant is killed by the raveners. Lysander's command squad kill 5 hormagants, who wipe the combat squad.






The Tyranid reserves arrive, two trygons and a squad of genestealers. The stealers outflank and assault the squad of hammer terminators, killing two and losing 4 in return. The Trygons arrive by the land raider detachment. The Tevigon spawns 15 gaunts and expends its reserves. The spawned gaunts charge with the prime towards lysander, who kills the prime, but not before he takes two wounds. The carnifex moves toward the Captain's squad in the center. Hive guard destroy the autocannon on the dakka pred. The heirodule assaults and kills the full strength combat squad on the close flank. The Ravener assaults the captain and his squad and dies. The marines lose a member, and kill 5 hormagants in retaliation. The combat squad in front of the Captain's squad is assaulted by the Hive Tyrant, who kills the squad at the loss of a tyrant guard. The tervigon charges and shakes a land raider. So far the Tyranids hold 2 objectives, the Marines 1, and the last is contested.





Turn 4
The Marines begin to turn the tide in their favor. On the close flank, the heirodule is finally dropped by the lascannon pred. The final tactical marine shoots and kills the zoanthrope. Combined shooting from both remaining land raiders drops the tervigon. The dakka pred shoots and puts a wound on the squad of hive guard. The Hammer terminators lose another member of their squad, but run the stealers off the board. the assault squad kills the remaining hive guard from the second squad. Lysander takes another wound, but is able to bring down another 4 gaunts. Lysander's command squad stand firm, bringing down 4 gaunts and 3 hormagaunts. The whirlwind kills a member of the biovore brod, who fail their morale and runn off the board.

The tyranids are not without their own successes. One trygon assaults and wrecks a land raider, the other charges the assault marines and kill 4 while losing a wound. The Whirlwind explodes inder a hail of shots from the hive guard, and the gaunts finally drag down lysander. Lysanders command squad kills the rest of the gaunts and hormagants. The hive tyrant and carnifex move to assault the Captain and his squad. The rest of the hormagants are killed, as well as the carnifex who was force weaponed by the epistolary. A tyrantguard is also dragged down, but not before killing the librarian.

Turn 5
The game is really coming down to the wire. The final marine and las pred move to hold the marine objective on the close side. The Land raider and Lysander's comand squad drag down a tyrgon. The dakka pred moves to contet the central marine objective. The assault squad sergeant dies, but is able to place 2 wounds on the trygon, who consolidates toward the tyranid objective previously held by the biovores. The Captain and the last member of his squad die, as does the last tyrant guard.

The tyranids scrable to regain their lost objectives. the trygon moves and secures one objective, the remaining zoeanthrope secures the other. The remaining gaunts move to screen the zoeanthrope, and the hive guard wreck the dakka predator contesting the central objective.

I hope you guys enjoyed this batrep, it really came down to the wire, moreso than the number of objectives would lead you to believe. The squad of terminators was in a position to charge the hie tyrant, and the command squad could have easily contested the far tyranid objective. If it had gone anoter round, the tyranids might not have been able to hold on, but those are really the best games.

Turn 3
The Las pred and the combat squad guarding the close flank shoot, and take 2 wounds off of the heirodule, leaving 1 wound left. The Whirlwind shoots and puts a wound on a biovore. The third land raider moves onto the far flank and disgorges more thunderhammer terminators, who assault and wipe the gargoyles, who cut down the last members of the combat squad before they are destroyed. The unengaged assault squad advances and charges the far hive guard squad, putting a wound on one hive guard. Lysander charges and kills a zoanthrope. The last of the lightning claw terminators are killed by the prime and gaunts. The combat squad on the close flank kill the other prime, but lose three members. The assault squad sergeant is killed who by the ravener.

The tyrannic reserves arrive, the genestealers assaulting the thunderhammer terminators who killed the gargoyles. the Stealers killed two marines at the cost of 4 stealers. The tervigon spawns 14 gaunt and expends its reserves. The heirodule kills the last full strength combat squad by the imperial objective, and the carnifex moves toward the captain and his unit near the imperial center. The hive guard destroy the autocannon on the dakka pred. the center hormagant unit kills a marine in the captain's squad at the loss of 5 gants. The forward combat squad in the center of the board is destroyed by the hive tyrant, but manage to kill a tyrant guard. the tervigon charges and shakes a land raider. The prime and gaunt on the far flank charge lysander and his command squad. Lysander takes a wound, kills the prime, and a few gaunt from each unit are killed.





Turn 4
The las predator shoots and kills the heirodule, and the single remaining marine on that flank shoots and kills the zoeanthrope. The remaining land raiders shoot and kill the tervigon. The dakka pred shoots and puts a wound on the hive guard. The whirlwind kills a biovore and runs the remaining one off the table. The captain and librarian kill the rest of the hormagants. The assault squad kill the last of the hive guard squad. The thunderhammer terminators lose another member of their squad, and overrun the rest of the stealers. lysander loses 2 wounds, and kills 4 gaunts. Lysanders command squad kill 7 gaunt from the 2 squad. Though the marines have taken terrible casualties, the main strengths of the tyranids has been destroyed.



Its really voming down to the wire now. The Zoeanthrope moves to secure the far tyrannic objective. The hive guard shoot and explode the last whirlwind. One Trygon assaults and kills 4 assault marines, and takes a wound. The other Trygon assaults and wrecks a land raider. The last of the hormagants drag down a terminator before dying. The last termagants are able to drag down lysander. The carnifex and hive tyrant assault the captain and his squad. The Librarian force weapons the carnifex and the captain kills a tyrant guard for the loss of the Librarian.



Turn 5
Not much still moving by turn 5. The last marine on the close flank moved up to secure the objective. The last land raider inflicts 3 wound on the Trygon that killed its fellow. Lysander's command squad charge and kill the Trygon. The Captain and marine holding the central objective are killed. The last Trygon kills the assault marine sergeant, and consolidates toward the objective that had been held by the biovores.

The Hive Guard wreck the dakka pred that was contesting the central objective. Trygon moves to hold objective. After some more ineffective shooting the game ends.

I forgot my camera this past weekend when we had a 20,000 points ish fully painted apocalypse battle! It's nice to see one, though next time maybe put some green felt down so it doesn't LOOK like a kitchen table?

Also, is that table 4 feet wide? Or how wide is it? Often I find "standard" everyday tables to be too short, like 40" or 38" wide only. How did this work out for you?

It seems kind of unfair to start the two armies so close to each other, though. Especially with all that intervening terrain, i looks like the marine player barely got a shot off before you whomped him will all those close combat monsters.
