Are buildings treated as vehicle?

In a word; no.

Sal: Doesn't matter rulebook FAQ says no. Mostly because building are terrain peices, and building that can be entered are only treated in the same way as vehicles for ease of use(otherwise they would have to write at least another page of rules for how units inside of buildings works).

The FAQ Q&A is this:
Q: Can you ram a building? (p79)
A: No. The vehicle will simply stop if it contacts a building.

The FAQ says no, but in any local game I'd play, I'd encourage people to do it anyways.

There's no good reason for the FAQ to have banned it, and it is awesome, fluffwise.

Yes but rules of the house, are but house rules.

PMs with house rules suggested(and noted as house rules): Welcome.

Post on YMDC with house rules(even when noted as such): Not... as... Welcome.

Now please Ailaros(and any others), do not take offense to me saying this; it is merely to point out that citing a house rule you use in this forum can cause great confusion(as YMDC is for hard rules).

Posting how you choose to play the game where that differs to the actual rules is perfectly acceptable in YMDC, so long as the poster is clear that what they are posting is their own house rule. As was the case here.

Arctik Firangii: True; but I think you know what I meant.

Insaniak: Sorry, I clearly misunderstood that aspect. I did, however, note that I meant no offense(I truly didn't); and only posted that remark as adding house rules to the YMDC forum could be rather confusing to new players(who as we know from many of the questions and lengthy threads do not always read the whole post). I will refrain from such statements in the future.

Personally I don't see why you couldn't. Then again, this is the day and age of such advanced technology that even the best battle tank of the marine army could be bested by a waist high wall made of broken stone.

A rule in our club is that if your vehicle hits a building then it will fall over depending on what it is and you measure how tall it is and if there are models within that range of the building they die unless they have eternal warrior

I seem to remember there where GW rules for destroying buildings, something to do with armor values and structure points...

I assume that if you assign a armor value to the building and use logic when you ram the thing, (each "structure point" is a physical structure point in the building and taking it out would force a collapse of that portion) and just use the Ram rules on it. Then again every time you make a successful cover save in that building it might take damage, plus any AOE weapons would also affect the buildings... thus no one ever bothers with these types of rules.

Models in buildings don't take cover saves. The current 40K rules essentially treat buildings with units in them as immobile transport vehicles, with the main exception being the FAQ prohibition on ramming them.

The fact they banned it doesn't really make much sense to me.

What about parapets?

Parapets are just a part of a building that lets 'embarked' units who are on it shoot as if from an open topped vehicle (instead of using the building's 'fire points') at the penalty of a +1 on the damage chart (essentially it becomes 'open topped').

They've probably considered it, but it's not relevant to rules discussions.
