Hi I'd like to build a competitive tyranid army at 1250 points and this is what I came up with.

HQ
Hive tyrant 235
-Armoured shell
-Lash whip and bonesword
-Heavy venom cannon

Elite
2 Hive guard 100

2 Hive guard 100

2 Hive guard 100

Troops
12 Genestealers 252
-toxin sacs
-broodlord with scything talons

12 Genestealers 252
-toxin sacs
-broodlord with scything talons

ok that gives me 1039 points should I get for the last 211
1) a rtygon with adrenal glands 210 poins or
2)30 Gargoyles with toxin sacs 210 points ?

Ok plan is to infiltrate or outflank the genestealers and use the hive guards close to the hive tyrant so he can provide synapse. They can also crack open all those small transports and a few bigger tanks i think.
If I take the trygon option I would use him err I don't know :S If I take the gargoyles I wouls use them as massive shield for the tyrant and guards.
Please don't tell me to get a tervigon or zoantrophers please!!! they are ugly and I don't like them.

In a 1250 point game..tyranids rule! why? because you can get a few big MC's that are almost impossible to take down with only 1250 points of shooting.

Your list:

Hive tyrants are to expensive for a 1250 armylist. If you really need synapse then its better to save points and take a Pyranid prime with two boneswords and attach it to a hivegaurd unit. I would take 2x3 hiveguard units instead of 3x2. This way you get 1 less KP and its harder to take down a unit and claim VP's.

Your Genestealers are the only scoring units but the have to get into the fight, so its hard for you to claim the objectives/counters that are not near the enemy. A scoring tervigon is the best unit for this job but you dont like them, so..(the are only as ugly as you make them).

With a Prime instead of a Hive Tyrant and one less Broodlord...you can take one more trygon! Now you got two Trygons in a 1250 game! If you deepstrike them you will get at least one in turn 2 so he can backup your genestealers.

hope it helps..

Somewhere

Hmmmm looking good mate, but like Shogun said, Tyrant is expensive, you don't need him. Get a Prime
As for your army, you have aload of anti tank but not much scoring. Perhaps 30Hormagaunts? or a Tervigon as troops?
You know what, why not get solid Swarm lead by a Prime and a Troops Tervigon? and HG backup,

Hive Guard =tanks

Swarm of gaunts =tying up troops/flooding em

Stealers =elite hunters

Tervigon =objective holder/momma

Trygon =meat grinder

The Tyranids are like the great Hydra, remove one head, two more will sprout from it's neck equally deadly, they care not for plea for mercy, for they have no soul to care. All that is left in the void of their soul is a hunger, It is this, that the marines cannot kill...

Same as above, with the rest of the points get more genestealers and a Trygon, Like Mathew said, the meat grinder...

Ok try no 2

HQ
Tyranid prime 90 points
-Bonded exoskeleton
-A pair of boneswords
-Scything talons

ELITES
3 Hiveguards 150points

3 Hiveguards 150points

TROOPS
10 genestealers 213 points
-Broodlord
-Toxin sacs

10 genestealers 213 points
-Broodlord
-Toxin sacs

19 Teermagaunts 114 points
-toxin sacs

20 Termagaunts 120 points
-Toxin sacs

HEAVY SUPPORT
Trygon 200 points

Should be 1250 points
what I was thinking about is droping the gaunts for another trygon or mawloc so I can keep a few gaunts to secure the home objective :/

synapse is still needed, personaly i would drop the toxic sacs and take a prime, but other people seem to like the toxic sacs so i guess it depends on how you want to play it

synapse is not really needed... if you think about it. units that you want to hold back and shoot with usually have lurk, and they will do that, and if nothings in range they run to cover, pretty much the same thing you do with synapse. Stuff that you want right in the enemies face will usually have feed, and runs up to the enemies face without the help from synapse.
