Avatar is a monstrous creture and an IC can he join a unit? I looked in the rulebook and didnt see anything saying a monstrous creature couldn't and an ic can join a unit so can he?

He can.
He just can't join other single model units - wraithlords - or any other unit that consists of one model, or vehicles - unless that single model unit is also an IC.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

And being an MC he can still be picked out of the squad in shooting; the BRB has some things to say about MC that are also ICs: see page 49, heading IC & Shooting, subheading Shooting at ICs, second paragraph, Second sentence.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Why didn't i even look at the eldar codex before posting?

Worst part is it was sitting next to me after answering a different Eldar question.

Arschbombe is 100% correct.

Haha. Glad to see my gut was right. I thought he wasn't an IC, but I wasn't sure and had no way to check, so I kept my mouth shut.

But yes, the Avatar is NOT an IC. This problem has happened to me on occasion, assuming that because a unit is alone, it is an IC. Make sure you read through it all.
