So far I have pretty much finished my list for my 3000 point ogre kingdom army, setting aside 300 points worth of magic items for my Tyrant, Slaughter master, Butcher, and Battle Standard Bearer. Unfortunately as a Newbie to Fantasy I am a little unsure of what I should exactly take for Magic Items...

I have to admit, I miss the old Infantry battles of 4E compared to this 5E wonderland of APCs/IFVs everywhere. It's like we jumped from WWI to WWII.

the 4+ ward from the BRB is a good generic item to keep ypur BSB alive, or armor of destiny.

i like facebeater tyrants with the tenderizer (Big T) but i have seen ninja tyrants with glittering scales and greyback pelt that are very hard to hit.

for me its all about if im going to run the deathstar and lump all my characters into one giant unit, or if im going to mix them up into different units.

take a lok into the ogre book an the BRB and pick stuff that suits your playstyle. overall i think ogres just need to use the stuff that A. keeps them alive and B. deals the most pain.

There ain't nearly enough Salvage in this thread!

I love Mastadon Armor for BSBs (as if memory serves its their 50 points)
Also that common magic sword that gives the Tyrant +3 attacks is fun

Very weird.

for a while i was going for this build

Greyback Pelt, Glittering scales, 4+ ward item, Mawseeker, and a CLS. WS7 with a -2 to be hit modifier on T6 was nasty, but i realized he wasn't very durable to attacks that didmanage to get through.

i now run this build and it rocks.

Tricksters Helm, Healing Potion, Mawseeker, and CLS. WS7, T6, and you have to reroll to wound. most enemies need 6s anyway, rerolling those 6s hurts. and once he does get wounded down abit he can use the healing potion

How often does your BSB die outside of CC?

My go to build for my tyrant is: Mawseeker, Trickster's Helm, Wyrdstone Necklace, Other Trickster's Shard, Heavy Armor, Great Weapon.

Sure, there are more beatstick builds, but I have yet to see this tyrant bested in hth combat. T6 and Re-roll succesful wounds tends to midigate quite a few attacks coming at him and the OTS benefits his buddies too.

I like giving the Slaughtermaster the crown of command and the Skullmantle. He usually hangs out in the 2nd rank of Ironguts, so defensive items are not that important.

My BSB is usually equipped thus: Gold Sigil Sword, Talisman of Endurance, Enchanted Shield, Heavy Armor

+3/++5 saves and no one expects the Spainish Inqui... er.. I mean an I10 Bruiser. You could drop the Gold Sigil Sword for Mawseeker and the Cathay Longsword if you want T6 on the BSB.

Whats really funny is a Tyrant with the Pelt, Scales, and the Fencers blades

technically, if your WS isn't 10, you can't hit him at all.

So I noticed that a lot of Builds for the Tyrant, BSB and Slaughtermaster are focused to reduce the effectiveness of your opponent's attacks...

But what happens when magic is thrown into the equation... Mind Razor means that our T6 is pointless as we are wounded on 2s with Ld 8 enemies.

Aye, magic is the main weakness of Ogres, but thats what Dispell scrolls and our Lvl4 SMs are for.

Mindrazor is the least of our worries in CC.

Worry more about Psuns, Dwellers, and Flesh to Stone.

Mindrazor is one of those spells you should be burning a dispell scroll on(or at least have a Slaughtermast to attempt to dispell with).

EDIT: Gah, Ninja'ed

Actually the CC rules say that a roll to hit of a 6 allways succeeds so this is overkill.

Plus isn't anyone with WS 5 or higher hitting on 4s under normal circumstances?

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”
