Any thoughts on FW's Caestus Assault Ram as to how it may be a little too overpowered?

I feel we've been over this but;

I don't feel it is overpowered. It is basically a more expensive version of the stormraven (note: BA can't choose it) which looses its ability to transport dreadnoughts and jump troops. It packs much less fire power unless you want to jump up its cost to over a land raider while having less transport space in it.

I think that the rules are a bit strange, the ramming coupled with the afterburner my be slightly OP but overall I think it is (suprisingly) well balanced for one of FW's experimental rules.

I have heard its been called over powered, but have zero experience with it.

First of all, bear in mind that the rules are only experimental currently. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/c/caestus.pdf

Cestus and Stormraven cost about the same. (cestus is a little more)

Cestus has AV 13,13,11 - so better on front and sides but worse on the back. That rear AV12 on the stormraven makes it VERY strong when being assaulted.

Cestus can carry 10 termies, more than the SR. The SR carries more PA and a dread. SR can also carry jump packers.

Cestus is faster and has a special ramming ability.

SR has way more guns but the one gun the Cestus has is a large blast melta weapon. That weapon is mounted in a position where it can only fire dead ahead - the storm raven has it's weapons on fairly good mountings.

The Cestus is a fast attack choice while the SR is a heavy support choice. For the kind of armies that would want a vehicle like this, the FA choice is competing with other stuff you would want.

Overall, I think the Cestus is a better troop delivery system - especially for termies - but the StormRaven is a better all-rounder.

I wouldn't say it's overpowered.

On moon miranda.

For what it costs and what it does, it honestly should be 275pts and HS. Don't compare it with a Stormraven, compare it with a Land Raider, especially as the one army with the Stormraven can't take the Caestus.

It's not much less difficult to stop than a Land Raider, if at all due to its melta immunity and SMF cover save and 5+ always on forward arc invul save, it delivers its cargo much faster, and isn't really any less well armed. As a bonus, it doesn't take an HS slot, but rather the far more glossed over FA. If you are faced with a choice between the two, you'll almost always pick the Caestus every time if you've got the model.

Facing 3 of them is far scarier than facing 3 Land Raiders, and generally costs fewer points. The AV13 with cover/invul saves and melta immunity just makes it too hard to stop (you've basically got 1 turn before it can deliver its cargo into an assault), and brings back the 4E Eldar Flying Circus, but worse as troops can assault out of it, and much scarier troops.

It's one of FW's rare, but recent spuckups. I don't know too many people that would enjoy playing against it. Add another 40pts and make it HS (very critical), then maybe.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

I misread the title as "Any thoughts on Faetus Assualt Ram" (with the Fetus spelt wrong).
