The Land of Lincoln

Hello All.

First off, I hope everyone has a Happy New Year...alright? Now, on with it then...

I am confused about the new 8th Edition rules and Bretonnia regarding the Blessing of the Lady. What, if any, does this afford my Army in terms of effect? That is, do all of my Troops (Peasants, Knights, etc..) gain a 6+ Ward Save? Do I or can I still Pray? If so, when?

Next, does equipping my Archers with Light Armor (Armour) afford them a 6+ Armor Save?

Lastly, do any of my Peasant Troops get Armor Saves whether they have Light Armor and Shields or Light Armor only? If so, what is that number; 5+? 6+?

Thank you all for the clarifications. I appreciate the assistance.

Cheers!

Michael Collins

The Blessing of the Lady only affects "Knightly" characters and units (those with either the Knights vow, the questing vow or the grail vow). So no your peasants won't get any benefits from it.

Against attacks of strength 4 or below it grants a 6+ ward save and against attacks of strength 5 or more it grants a 5+ ward save.

To get this you have to pray at the start of the game, after armies have been deployed. Your opponent will then get given the choice of taking first or second turn rather than rolling for it as per usual.

As for your low born types, yes giving bowmen light armour will give them a 6+ armour save and your men at arms get a 5+ armour save for the combination of light armour and shields.

Hope this answers all your questions

Thank you Nick!

The "Knightly" thing confused me. As for the Peasants, the standard Armor save applies.

You help is greatly appreciated.

Respectfully,

One last question. Do Mounted Yeomen count as "Low Born" or Peasant types regarding the Blessing rule?

Thanks,

Michael Collins

The mounted yeomen are indeed peasants (they have the peasant's duty rule).

The difference between a peasant and knight is simply defined by their special rules. All peasant units have the peasant's duty rule. All knights have either the knights vow, the questing vow or the grail vow special rules. As long as you remember this most knight/peasant specific rules should be easy enough to work out.

Also should point out that the damsels and ladies get the ward save.

There is a way to give peasants the prayer tho...

Damsel with Prayer Icon of Quenelles. At the start of the turn she uses it so herself and any unit she is with gain the blessing of the lady. This is a great way to make a 40-50 strong Men at arms block a lot more resilient.
