Subject: Size of objective markers?

I've been wondering for a while now but what size should objective markers be? I feel like the size does matter seeing as how larger markers make it easier to capture while smaller ones require getting that few inches closer to capture or contest.
The weird thing is that I've seen ones ranging from normal space marine infantry bases to ones the size of cds.
What size should they be?

I don't think there is any size regulation for home made objective markers.
Now if you go and get a GW objective marker (which is the same size as a normal round base plus a flag on it) then glue that to a CD, that could be a problem for some people. But it really depends on the people you are playing against; or if you are in a tournament or not.
Practically anything could be an objective marker in a casual game.

Yup, nothing official. I usually use 40mm square bases (just to stand out a bit from all the round bases on the table), which are big enough for some nice modelling detail, and have never caused any complaints from anyone.

I use 5x40mm for minor objectives and a single 60mm for a major objective. My Imperial armies use the same set (SM, IG and DH) and my eldar army has its own set. The imperial ones are simply some spare resin crates I've had for years (old Fantasy Forge stock - may still be available from Scotia Grendel) with a SM sgt pennant pinned to them and painted up. The eldar ones use spare eldar bits from various boxes/kits. The 60mm for them is a statue of "faolchu" (falcon) which is an old Reaper Egyptian Horus Statue.

some tournaments specify what size so check with them specifically. for friendly games, i've never met a player that complained about them being on a 25mm normal base or 40mm termie base so you're probably safe with choosing on of them IMO. i personally go with the 25mm simply because i store them in my dice cube with one layer of dice taken out to make room.

I used 40 mm, but will probably make a couple of 25mm & 60mm just to be safe.

I've just began a personal campaign to try and getmeveryone at the flgs to standardize objective sizes to 40mm round bases. Shouldn't be too hard since I run the events and am stating the 40mm round to be the size they use, and factoring in matching objectives to army appearance scores.

At my FLGS, one person has a standard base made up from bits they had from some extra Cadians.
However, whenever we play in the store, we use poker chips. They really stand out, making them easier to see. And with different colors, they can mean different things (which was helpful for Tanksgiving)

40mm just feels right. not too big or little. small enough not to stand out or distract(you're not building diorama!), yet big enough to not get lost in a sea of models or teraain.

People use 40mm because you can buy packs of them from GW fairly cheap (or at least you could) it's also a throwback to the influential 'rules of engagement' WD article. Those are literally the only reasons. I would say go with GW. If the Official bright green flag thing is 25mm go with 25mm. If any arguments arise you can cite the fact the official one is 25mm.

Ok so most people seem to say they play with the 40mm base as a marker but the official one is 25mm.
I think I'll just make a few of each but what do they use in tournaments like 'ard boyz or throne of skulls? (haven't been to one yet)
