So it's been a while since my last batrep, and I apologise in advance for the lack of pics. My camera has been lent out for several weeks and I have no idea when it's getting returned.
So in an unusual turn of events a lot of players came out of the woodwork. 32 total. 1500pts until we get to the top 4 at which point it becomes 2k. Players were split into 4 groups with 1 person per group going through. First round was single game knockout to make things a bit faster since after this first round each game is best of 3. Strange but it means a lot of focus is needed throughout each day and 1 off crazy wins get mitigated a lot.
So in my first game I get drawn against a competent opponent. She's (that's right a girl...the only one who actually plays in Shanghai that I know of) running BA with Mephiston leading her army, as well as some sort of captain. FnP is spread throughout her army and I know is gonna be a real tough game for me. She is well renowned in her circuit so I know I have to be careful.
My list
Tyranid Prime
Lashwhips and Bonesword
Deathspitter
Adrenal Glands
Regenerate
3x Hive guard
3x Hive guard
2x Zoanthropes
1x Tervigon w/ Catalyst
Toxin sacs
14x gaunts
15x dakkagaunts
3x warriors w/ 1 barbed strangler
Dakkafex
T-Fex
Her list (from Memory)
Mephiston
Captain w/ jump pack
Lightning claw and something I forgot)
5x assault marines w/ rhino (no jumppacks) attached w/ corbulo
5x honour guard w/ jump packs...1 gives them FnP
2 flamers, 2 meltas
10x scouts, 9 sniper rifles, 1 ML
3x scout bikers
6x bikers, sergeant w/ PF, 2x plasma, an attached FnP guy
So Game 1. We start by rolling Dawn of War and a single objective each. I get first turn and take it hoping to capitalize on getting a good round of shooting on T2 before the sun comes up. I deploy my objective in the centre of the table in my DZ in a forest. Everything comes on Turn 1 and runs...bunched up in the middle knowing she has few templates. I make the mistake of putting my dakkafex and attached prime on my left instead of centre. She already has her scouts on the table (combat squads of course) on the 3rd level of some ruins. Her objective is out of sight behind a ruin with some scouts. Mephiston and regular bikes with attached captain come on turn 1 and move 12" up. Mephiston hides behind the ruins to counterattack if I get close.
Now as the game progressed it quickly became a stalemate in the middle with me throwing an ever increasing size of gaunts into the fray to stop Mephiston popping everything in sight. In the end my dakkafex and prime finally managed to hit the bikers in cc and wipe them then proceeded to hit Mephiston in cc and get him down to 1 wound before dying to his attacks back. Game then ended... in a draw with a heavy cost on my side (in sheer numbers of gaunts). It was a more difficult game than I anticipated, though luck had something to do with it. Shooting 3 rounds of dakkagaunts and failing to do a single wound (as well as everything else shooty that I had) really hurt and he never seemed to fail his psychic powers even when in SotW range. Since it was a draw we both agreed that we would play again and in the case of another draw we would count up VP's.
So Game 2 (but still round 1). We again rolled Dawn of War but got KP's. At first this worried me but then I put my thinking cap on. Firstly she deployed her scouts in her regular deployment (she got first turn). Way across on 1 side. I then castled up with my warriors on the 2nd floor of some ruins on the opposite side of the table way out of range.
Her Turn 1 (and mine)
Again the bikes came on as did Meph. All my stuff was reserved so I had not much to do.
Her Turn 2
Her Honour guard came on and DS on the ground floor next to the warriors. Scout bikes also came on the same side and they provided a screen to the Honour guard from my table edge. Honour guard then shot at my warriors but I went to ground and only took 2 wounds from flamers.
My Turn 2
Only my dakkafex, tervigon and T-fex came on. I would have really liked the firepower from the dakkagaunts but hey ho. T-fex whiffed his shots, Tervigon was put out of sight of scouts but was gonna provide synapse if I wanted Hive guard behind some ruins to shoot her scouts. Dakkafex and prime then proceeded to shoot the snot out of the scout bikers but killed not a single 1. Then I assaulted the bikers and wiped them and fell back a bit to try and allow her to come to me if she wanted to shoot her meltas from the honour guard.
Her Turn 3
She took the bait (note that her rhino and assault marines didn't make an appearance). She wanted to shoot her meltas so she left her honour guard in position instead of waiting for backup from the bikes, Captain and Mephiston. She managed to put a wound on the prime and 1 on the fex. She also tried shooting her ML at my T-fex who I had left in range but she missed...would have liked to see her face when she realized I had Sv2+.
My Turn 3
My zoanthropes came on and that was it. So I had them deploy with my castle and proceed to kill 3 Honour guard with combined shooting (including the FnP giving guy). I made a mistake of not assaulting, though I think in my movement phase I made a mistake of moving my fex and prime out of assault range...though that would have left them bait for Mephiston...maybe not such a big mistake.
Her Turn 4
Her rhino finally came on and managed to immobilize itself just over 12" into her deployment zone...nice. She then charged my prime and fex with the bikes and Meph hit the zoanthropes (though they didn't die, but locked him in combat...he also took a wound from perils and failed his psychic test), while her 2 honour guard charged my warriors. Warriors lost badly due to her disgusting 3+ saves...1 left with 1 wound. I won the bike combat nicely since she had been trying to avoid terrain on the way in leaving only her captain and a regular guy in BtB of my guys. She didn't run though.
My Turn 4
All my stuff came in except for 1 unit of hive guard. T-fex shot at the rhino and only took off the storm bolter. In combat I got lucky. My prime managed to wipe the bike squad (includng the PF wielding sergeant before they had a chance to strike, then the fex IDed the captain and FnP guy. My warrior died, though he took a model with him. Meph didn't finish off the zoanthropes.
Her Turn 5
Her assault marines disembarked and tried to get into the fray, though they were far from the action. The Honour guard helped Meph out with the zoanthropes and between them they got wiped leaving Mephiston out in the open ready to be hit by everything.
My Turn 5.
Not much moving to do. 14 gaunts shot down the sole survivor of the honour guard squad. T-fex wrecked the rhino. Everything else shot at Mephiston and managed to knock off 2 wounds leaving him with 2 too many. It was do or die time. Dakkafex and Prime charged. Prime struck first and got 2 hits, 2 wounds and she conceded with her 2 remaining units just too far away to help out. 7KP's to 2. NOM NOM NOM.
A tough game though I made the most of the mission. I felt I had to work hard for the victory but I learnt a lot from the first game. My counter assault unit really hurts Mephiston, making him Strike at I1 is deadly. My opponent and I both made a few mistakes...her firing frag missiles at my zoanthropes Game 1 and with me deploying my counter assault unit to the side instead of the centre where they were needed. In the 2nd game my opponent also made the mistake of sending her units in 2 at a time. If it had been 4 units together I doubt the result would have been the same, but I laid the trap and she took the bait.
Great game...round 2 should be played tomorrow.

Thanks. Things are going to get a lot tougher though after this next round. The competitive players are basically my group of friends and we are all still in (and knocking out the less competitive builds quite handily, lol). Got one of them in the same group as me which sucks a bit, but I hope I have what it takes to win. If not I don't mind losing too much since it is a rock hard list and it's not exactly a good matchup for me...Shrike and 10 assault terminators.

A new store opened up that's designed for Flames of War, but since they have so many tables we arranged for the tourney to be held there. It's just off ZhongXing road in ZhaBei district.
Regarding the BA list, the girl in question happened to mention to me that she prefers to play at 1850. She dropped her fire support units to make it fit into 1500, so that caused her some headaches. My list also is very much a work in progress, though it seems I may just stick to what I know works...got knocked out yesterday.
TBH I can't recall all the details since it was about 7 hours straight gaming. Best of 3, first game draw, second and third game losses. All 3 missions were multiple objectives, though I was hoping for KPs in the last mission so I could pull off a big win. Alas it wasn't to be.
Am in a bit of a rush so will post my opponents army list later.

I was actually saying that because she had bikes and scouts in a BA list.
BA doesn't really work at its best if you're using those kinda units in my experience.

Ok, so things got a bit messed up in my second round. My opponent (Tau) was ill though he called up the TO and offered him his place so we could carry on with our scheduled games. Our group is already behind the others in regards to games played and I had taken the morning off work specially so I took the TO up on his offer. Now he plays Imperial Fists so I knew to expect Lysander... His list was as follows:
Lysander
Dreadnought (close combat orientated...not sure on type)
Meltagun
flamer
5x Sternguard w/ Drop pod
5x Combi plasma
Drop pod
5x Legion of the Damned
Meltagun
Plasma Cannon
5/6x Scouts
Camo cloaks
4/5x Sniper rifles
1x Heavy bolter with hellfire rounds
10 man tactical squad
Heavy plasma
Meltagun
Drop pod
2x Landspeeders
Typhoon ML's
Heavy Bolters
Dakka pred
Thunderfire Cannon
I honestly can't recall the games in any fine detail either. Will definitely be getting my camera back for the next tourney since I feel that would be a huge help in remembering things. I will try to follow up some of the other reports of my mates in this thread since they are all still in.
Good luck guys.

Good luck with the rest of the tourny!
Wow I never realized that people in Shanghai played WH40K.
Last summer when I went to visit my family I was bored to tears with nothing to do. Next time I think I'll bring my army with me.
Also, is this tournament in chinese? Are most of the competitors chinese people or what? I'd hate to get into an rules debate with someone and me trying to point to the rule in my english codex while they shove their codex back at me. xD

A lot of the players are Chinese, but our group is made of expats. However a lot of the locals who play speak reasonable English. Only recently has the rulebook been available in Chinese so if they wanted to play, they had to speak English. Codexes are still all English.
