Hi there. Ive been collecting Dark Eldar for years and years, and when the new book came out, I nearly abandonned them due to the massive amount of models I had the assumed to be obsolete. I bought the new book off my friend for cheap so I had a good look at it and tried it out with some of my old models and realised that I could get it to work afterall!

First thing I had to do howver was to rip my gunship creation of my youth in half to make a ravager and a venom(ish thing), vemonishise my raider, then buy 2 new raiders. My main problem before was only having one useable raider.

So I thought just for interest, Id stick up photo's of the process explained above. This was a complete salvage job so Im not looking for compliments on my building work, its just for general interest.

I know the best way to make the venoms is to convert the eldar vypers, but they cost money! Ive got a raider in the post and I'll have another one on the way soon, but when I start getting new models and doing up the paint jobs on some of the older stuff Im gonna keep, I'll make a blog for it. If I buy kabalite warriors they will be used as trueborn, cuz Ive already got about 80 warriors and Im not spending all that money again!

Anyway heres the chopping, chewing and glueing!

This was my old gunship: I had rules for it crossed between a ravager and a raider and a dias of destruction, but it became a pointless waste of models when I started to get more serious.

This is the 'Venom' I managed to get from it.

My Ravager back at last!

The first stages of stripping down my intact old raider

After so many years of the vehicles constantly being broken off their bases, I developed one of the strongest techniques to fit your models to a base; Glue both parts, set fire to both parts, squash and hold! But now its gone too far and I managed to re-hole them by chomping the middle out of a few gun drones.

I was able to position the platforms a bit more accurately on this one. The other one was permanently attatched in a strange slanted position. (Glue and fire).

I trimmed off the back jet funnel part because it just looked far too long. The big engine at the back is still too big looking whereas the other venom has that hidden with the platforms, but it was far too big an excavation to start trying to deal with that. My mission is just to make it do, not to make it look great!

I decided to do that with the other one aswell to keep them consistent at least.

So heres what Im left with! Its definately a lot better from a stretegic point of view, and I think it went pretty well considering my resources.

I was considering boxing my whole army away and starting again, but unfortunately time and money are not aspects of fiction and Id like to try a few games with the new Dark Eldar in our clubs ongoing tournament.

I'll be replacing everything with new models bit by bit, which will be expensive but time consuming. Still got a whole lot of space marines to paint!

Cheers for your interest.

Could be a good idea!

Think I got a ravager, built it up, then cuz the tail part with the driver off, then got a raider and split it in half and made a new deck out of carboard and stuff. Cant remember much cuz it was so long ago. Had to use a few bits of sprue underneath for supports and stuff.

Cant wait to see the new models eventually for the venom and the bombers!

I'm guessing the lynx is for the 'setting fire to both parts' step?

It is yes!

That and setting fire to people when they say 'They arent venoms', which will probably inevitably happen! lol

With Wayland Games would hurry up and send me my raider and vallejo fluo green. 10 days waiting on stock so far with a league game on saturday.. Blastards!

Been there, done that. I misjudged it, and got a finger covered in molten plastic and quite bad burns

Fair enough.

Nice paintwork and clever way to make Venoms, main issue I have is that the Venoms no longer have a pilot/driver.

If a lighter or links/lighter doesnt work, I like to resort to a good long blade or a gun. They work well. Failling that one must resort to terrorism or philosophy. Building models with philosophy is an extreme method, but sometimes its called for.

lol

Yea, these are literally temporary, make shift, 'thatl do' jobs until they bring out the actual models for them. Hardly any time to paint or build any more and too long a to-do list to spend too much time on my old DE models.

I am re colour scheming them however! They shall be dark, almost lava lamp effect blue. I'll get more pics up when its worth while.

Just wanted to see what everyone else was doing for venoms without buying vypers.

Any examples?

You think building with philosophy is hard, try building with your peni-*BLAM!*

I have a cool solution to problematic flying bases. Go out and buy a box of Geomag and a box of smal screws (you know not nails, the ones that you screw in place, make sure they're flat and not rounded). Cut the geomags in to a size that you like and then strip the end where the model is giong to sit, meaning that you have a completely flat area around the magnet. then screw the screws in where the flying bases should go and then you have a strong magnetic flying base that easily comes apart for transport, did with all my eldar jetbikes and tanks and it works fantastically.

Sounds like a class idea with the magnets there! Just builting my new raider at the moment. Just arrived this morning!

Building with the peni*blam* is a daily requirement in my family. We build often!

lol.

That was the intention. One of those extreme jokes that you just leave so people wonder whether your serious.

Gonna clean out my ear with a cotton bud, then perform my daily ablutions and if I have time to upload pics of my new raider, I shall! Just over half way through building it.
