Comments and critiques appreciated.
WIP Termi TH/ SS. Usuable as a Captain or Lysander stand-in. Used the Eagle heads from the SM Capt backpack as new hammer heads. Trimmed up a Beakie head to fit.
LC Termie. Front
Side. Painting the wirebundle is a pain.
Some troops. Sgt, 2 bolters, flamer, missile. These are Black Reach models. Figured they would make decent basic troops while using the normal Tac-Marine kits for models like melta gunners, PF Sgts, Heavy weapon troops, etc...
WIP of the Sgt.
Vindicator. Storm bolter not yet added.
Razorback/Rhino. I've always loved the look of the Immolator so I'm using those as the base model. It will have the normal Razorback turret mounted. The cuppola fwd will have a driver/gunner inside the dome.
Ironclad Dred. I've since finished the Seismic Hammer and have added that.
Planned basing is using the "Back-2-Base ix" tech bases (shown WIP on some of the models).
I also made the really nice gold eagle emblems, but since I used clear decal paper the test applications do not show through on the dark color. Plan to reprint the symbology on white decal sheets and will have to trip real careful. Cest la vie.

I really like the feathering on your models, the blue could use some hard edged highlights and your faces could use a bit more attention (perhaps just a wash?).
Otherwise they are all great.

Thanks. Faces (flesh tones) have always killed me. But yeah, maybe a simple wash then pick out hilites. I figure I'll paint the eyes white then just use a fine-tip Sharpie to bisect the eyeball.
Unfortunately my camera does not do justice to the 'electric-blue' color on the power weapons/hammers.

I think you've done a great job. I love the vehicles. I tried to do a similar paint job but couldn't get the blending right and it looked just too sharp a contrast. You've done a great job with the belnding, you really have.

Awesome Autarch
|
Damn, Kelly, you have improved by leaps and bounds! That looks great! The highlighting sets off the models so well but it isn't too much.
Those bases are ace, too.
I agree that the face needs a wash and then maybe some simple highlights with flesh. The eyes are a pita, but if you can get the whites right, then just paint a black vertical line in the middle and they will look sweet.
Your Lysander is awesome that hammer conversion is tits la rue. I like it a lot.
The only other thing I can think of is to wash and highlight the cloth bits. White or bleached bone works well for the highlight on leather type colors, and applying some gryphonne sepia or ogryn flesh to the recesses will set them off.
On the whole though, I think you are going to wrack up the paint points at the next tournament you go to.
You're heading to the BSB, right?

Hi all. Just wanted to post an update. Troops are painted and a Land Raider is WIP. I got some more advice on the use of washes and hilites and it's amazing how a simple wash on a purity seal can make them look 100 times better. I bought some different bases from Champ Industries to add some variety while keeping with the 'tech-deck' theme. Unfortunately I could not find any 40mm bases I liked so i had to scratch build them for the Termies. Ended up being kinda fun, and yes, I need to clean them up with edge painting...any suggestions? I can go basic black or different collors to denote squads (although I have a plan for shoulder pad marks to indicate squads...)
So, on to the pics:
Captain Ravan. Counts as Lysander. He can also double as a Termie SGT in case I want to run a different HQ (Libby or Chaplain???)
Close Combat Scouts.
The Sgt has a Power Weapon (Yes, I need to do something about his shoes. Probably a simple black...)
TH/ SH Terminators. I could not find any 40mm bases I really liked so I started making my own from scratch. Kinda fun.
Standard Terminator.
LC Terminator. I'm really happy how this one base came out.
Sgt. This is a different set of bases from Champ Industries. The same theme (tech-deck) but different to add more variation on the theme.
The Land Raider WIP
Yes, those are stained glass windows.
Again, C&C is appreciated.

I like the WIP. Stain glass windows? How did that idea come about?
As for the bases I could not have really told the difference between the scratch built and the store bought 40mm bases. Subtle and classy, ties the army together nicely. In short: great bases!
I look forward to seeing a full army shot soon.

That purple is lovely, Its a tricky colour to get right. What would you think of adding some thinned dark green paint to the cracks and crevasses in the armour to add even more richness and depth. Love the addition of the COD windows to the land raider.

Intersting idea on the use of green in the crevices. I'll have to give it a shot on a test model to see how it comes out.
I've always felt the transport for an IC would be at least a little above and beyond a standard vehicle. I liked the ieda of the statues heralding a God of War onto the field, but those open windows on the CoD panel wouldn't work. Hence, the stained glass to add something to the windows.
Thanks for the critique on the bases. Plastruct makes a diamond plate that was HO scale. It can be cut out with scissors and glued directly onto a blank base. Once dry, trimmed with an x-acto blade. Plastic strips add the boundary sections (with the hazard stripes painted on). I think the secret is to go more minimal rather than make it too busy. I made one with all sorts of stuff on it and it ended up detracting from the model itself.
A full Army shot...yessss, I've got 2 more bolter troops to finish, the Land Raider, a Vindi, and a drop-pod still under construction.
I've been limiting myself to getting a specific list finished for the upcoming Broadside Bash. Once its done I will let myself have some fun and start filling out the Army....Enough Termies to make a Deathwing list, enough Bikes to play and all bike-speeder army. A third Vindi for when I want to be a jerk. Another land raider.....

An update for 1 Feb. At this rate they will be tabletop ready for the BSB, but far from done.
A Plamsa Cannon and a bolter dude. Hard to tell but I drilled out the guns.
The Vindicator. Note the Stormbolter is from the Sisters.
The Ironclad Dreadnought...now with Seismic Hammer-Heavy Flamer love.
His Drop Pod...A WIP.
A Terminator WIP. I trimmed up the helmet quasi GK style just to see how it would come out.
The Land Raider. Guns and treads. Much detail and highlighting to go.
Front...kinda dark.
Left oblique.
Right oblique.
Right side from above.
Next: a request for opinions. I kitbashed a gun from the Razorbacks from the Drop Pod and the Sisters Heavy Bolter.
So which style is better: The "Sister gun mount" or the Standard Space marine turret?
Sisters gun:
Space Marine gun:
As usual, C&C apreciated.

Thanks all.
Your right about the beaky head on the termie...I've never really liked the concept of dressing up like a tank...but then leaving your brain-pan exposed to random shots and shrapnel. I've got another termie being built that uses a regular SM helmet.
I also like the way the beaky head is angled and cocked; kinda like he's giving you a look that says "do you really want to f#$k with me?"
The stained glass windows:
Remember the Ultramarine movie website? They had a pic of the windows they did for the movie.
http://www.ultramarinesthemovie.com/movie/gallery/locations
Well, I just printed the picture onto an overhead transparency sheet (clear plastic sheet used in the days before PowerPoint) and then trimmed to fit the back of a CoD window peice i had already trimmed down to Land raider size and sanded all the deatail off the back.
Glued the transparency film onto the back of the CoD section (centered over the windows to give a nice presentation), then glued the whole thing over the opening where the LR side door would be.
You could do that with any picture...so if you had a wife and 3 kids you could put their faces in each window...score extra brownie points with the wife and all right before you tell her about the $200 Warlord you want to buy.....
The only issue I have is the statues get in the way of the lascannons so they dont lay flat against the side of the tank. Cest la vie.
I've been considering using the same technique to add glass to a normal CoD terrain piece. This would make it more interesting and also provide some LoS blocking terrain.

The dome is actually the front "glass" part on the Immolator (the open turret where the Sister gunner sits). It just happens this part exactly fits the SoB cuppola use on the Rhino.
This is someone elses Immolator, but you can see the "glass dome" part.
