Because I get bored very very easily, I've discarded my old monotonous chapter colours of White, Red, Gold, and Black, and have decided to take a different approach. For the last week or so I've been combing through the fluff of warhammer 40k and have started work on, what I hope, will a interesting and fun challenge.

So I'm starting fresh, I will be going out to purchase a bottle of Dettol, strip the many... many... coats of paint off of my once, twice, thrice hand me down (handed me down? hand me downed?) Space marines and starting as fresh as it is possible to do with small plastic men. My new chapter colours are going to be that of those renegade chapters that still, purportedly, fight for, if not the Imperium of man, then at least the Emperor.

My idea is to model, if not play, an army that keeps closely to the fluff. So I'll be painting all sorts of chapters that have been registered as KIA/MIA and the few that have been registered as excommunicatae (sp?) but still fight with the honour, courage, blah blah blah, of the Astares.

While walking around in the mall today with my girlfriend, I picked up some decals that have inspired me to create the following chapter.


A part of the 21st founding, these marines immediately showed a fascination for all things cute and cuddly, though this led to much harshness and ridicule from their brother Astares, they held fast to their beliefs that even the greatest evil must fall to the great power of Kawaii. They preached that this was a force that binds and guides all beings in the universe, and that to embrace Kawaii is to embrace the ultimate power. On terra they found records of an ancient pagan god, and have worshipped it as a divine avatar of the Emperor ever since. Needless to day, the inquisition, already strained by the chapter's unorthodoxy, and suspicious because of the fate of other 21st founding chapters, quickly expunged as many of these quasi-heretics as possible, dubbing them a failure on the same catastrophic failure as the pretty marines.

Some records of their chapter insignia remain however, in dark and secret lexicanums, of a chapter that, according to widely denied reports, still fights on in the name of the emperor, and his avatar.

Well, I got distracted . So my project for the next few days/hours, will be Grand Master Codicer something or other. *whispers* if you have a good idea for a name, I'm more than open to suggestions.

On to the basic fluff:
This guy has been hanging around in the Warp, and eye of Terror for WAY too long. His psychic powers have grown enourmously as a result, but his mind, some say, has utterly snapped as a result. Such are his powers however, that some speculate that it is by his will that the legion of the damned, which he lead into hiding after the death of their chapter master, are able to materialize unbidden on far reaching battlefields.

Regardless of the rumors and hearsay, here are the facts about **** (it really sucks not to have a name.. .:():
1) he is powerful
2) he is insane


So with the above in mind, i've started to create said psychic McCrazy pants.

The idea is to pose him somewhat similar to the picture of chaplain Cassius from the Fourth ed. SM codex, except instead of... whatever it is he's doing with his left hand (it's way less wrong than it sounds people.. ing pervs ), he'll be holding aloft a traitor guardsman by the face, which will be in the process of being flayed from the heretic's bones by the librarian's MIND POWERS OF DOOM!!!

This conversion feels way way way out of my league, which is why I think i want to do it so much .

Anyway, here are some awesome closeups of my fingers, and if you look real close, you might even be able to see the head of the guardsman that I started working on tonight.




So I'm really cheap, I could have tried making a skull from green stuff like i've seen masters like Migsula (sp?) do, but that's so hard even I don't want to try it (yet ). So what i did instead was took a small deamon skull that I had kicking around (couldn't find any human ones, which caused much profanity on my part as I saw them just yesterday), and got a guardsman head, removed all of the upper face and about 1/3 of the head back from there, then I removed the back of the skull, glued them together, and that's how I got that ugly piece of gak that you see above.

and here's the relatively finished head:




I'm sorry for the terrible quality of the pictures, it's really hard to photograph something that small with such fine detail pre-paint.


I basically just used the green stuff to seal up the gaps between the two pieces, I made the headband continue partway across the skull, continued the hair back to its approximate position originally, added an eyeball in the left socket, and creeped some flesh up and over some parts of the skull.

more to come! And hopefully of better quality, though I make no promises

Well, I worked on the Codicer's actual body parts today/tonight, and here's what I've come up with

first the arm that will be holding our hapless heretic aloft, after being attached to the torso





I had to do a lot of over gluing on the back part of the shoulder so that I could work on the model as the greenstuff was drying but there will be a giant ceramite... shoulder.. thingy... Pauldron! yes! one of those on him so it shouldn't be too much a problem

because he's legion of the damned, he requires lots and lots of fire and death on his person, so I fashioned flames (or tried to) on his right leg. These aren't the most up to date, as while looking at the pictures pre-upload I was able to see and fix some of the things that were wrong, but here they are anyway.








So the flames need a LOT of work, but, with frustration mounting, I've decided I'll wait till some of it dries before I take another crack at it. I need to add more flames to the back of the leg, and trim a lot of the tongues, but these things should be easier when dried. Besides, if all else fails, i can strip it off and try again!

and now, something that I'm actually kind of proud of . I, against my better judgement, tried to free-hand a skull onto one of the knee plates. Here it is.





Again these have been modified/improved(?) somewhat, the surface is a great deal smoother now, and, again, when it's dry, I can hopefully fix whatever errors there are.
