hi all

i have an urgent question for you pro gamers..

a dedicated transport (rhino) for a tactical squad counts as a troop option right?
and a troop can hold an objective right?

can my rihno hold an objective alone.. without a tac squad around??

This really belongs in You Make Da Call, but to answer your question:

A dedicated transport does not count as a troop unit for scoring purposes unless it is carrying a troop unit.

Your rhino could contest an objective, but unless it is carrying a tactical squad, it would not be able to hold the objective.

Transports do count as a troop unit for the purposes of deploying in a Dawn of War scenario, however. See the BRB for an example.

As I understand, vehicles can contest but not control. Also I think dedicated transports are a troop upgrade and not troops themselves, so I would say no them can't control by themselves. That said I will defer to the more knowledge types here on the board.

Vehicles may not control objectives, only contest.

Dedicated transports count as a unit for the slot it was purchased for. So a rhino purchased for a tactical squad is a troop unit, however since it is a vehicle it can still not control objectives.

1) Vehicles can never control an objective, regardless of being troops or not. See the BRB*

2) Dedicated transports " count as" the slot the unit that bought it occupies - so a troops unit buying a DT means that the DT counts as a troops choice, despite it not taking up any slots.


*Like all of 40k there is ONE exception - a land speeder bought as a RAS DOES score.

Nope. Vehicles, swarms, and things that specify (Death Company is a good example) never count as scoring.

Otherwise, rippers that go to ground for a 2+ cover save would be in more lists.

Just to reiterate Nos's second point of clarification, a dedicated transport selected alongside a unit DOES count as being a unit of whatever force org category its parent unit is.

So a Landraider taken as a dedicated transport by a unit of Terminators counts as an Elite unit, even though it doesn't take up a Force Org slot.

And a Wave Serpent taken as a dedicated transport by a unit of Dire Avengers counts as a Troops unit, even though it doesn't take up a Force Org slot and can't hold objectives. This matters in Dawn of War missions, in which you can only deploy up to two Troops units, which can include a squad and their transport.

Also, if you put an infantry troop unit into a non-dedicated transport, or into a non-troop dedicated transport (can't do *that* during deployment), they can still score from within the confines of their vehicle.

There are some examples of non-infantry that can score from inside a vehicle, if you want to add exceptions.

My point was that by putting a scoring unit inside a vehicle, you're not making the *vehicle itself* scoring, but simply measuring from the hull of the vehicle to allow the scoring unit to do its job.
