There isn't actually that many models that the two are going to share. A horde should have a number of models at least equal to 7% of the points value you play (if not more), with probably no vehicles, while mech lists have lots of vehicles and virtually no troops.

The only crossover will likely be a CCS, 6 dudes with special weapons and 30 guys with lasguns.

Totally agree with Ailaros here.

And what suggestions are you looking for, in particular?

On moon miranda.

If you want to cram in as many non-squadroned tanks as possible, there's this 2000pt list I've been building

CCS: 4x Melta, ML/HF Chimera.

That gives you 9 Troops units, 85 Infantry, and 17 independent AV12 vehicles. Alternatively, if you wanted even *more* vehicles, it would be possible to swap the Vendettas for Armored Sentinels and then field two relatively barebones Psyker Battle Squads in chimeras, giving you 19 AV12 vehicles and 95 infantry, but you'd be out of long range AP2 fire and outflankers.

For an all infantry army, you'd basically ditch all the tanks, but you would still definitely use all of the models for company/platoon command squads and infantry squads.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.
