So I have recently started playing legion and I like most of the models. Though some are crappy sculpts there rules make them must uses. Now my favoret legion model is the Nephilim Protector. Awsome model crappy rules can't seem to find any reason to pay the 5pts for him. (Anyone have any good pointers on using this guy?)
So does anyone else have models they love and want to play with but the rules just make them practically unusable?

How about awesome rules with craptacular models?

Black Ogrun Boarding Party.

Those models will never be owned by me, regardless of how much I'd like to field them.

There is a thin semantic line between weird and beautiful. And that line is covered in jellyfish.

^Ditto.
I ended up getting Bloodgorgers for screening duty for Medium Bases...doesn't work as well as BOBP IMO, but the models are better than those....eww.

I like the Overlords too, but it's not so much their rules, but nearly needing the Drudge slaves so that they will survive to get there is the problem...

I don't like the rules nor the models for Drudge's.

Hmmm,

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Hmm....

While i'm not thrilled with the models for the Kayazy assassins, they're "good enough", though the resculpts for the Winterguard Infantry can hurry the hell up. They were meh when they first were released, and haven't stood the test of time well.

Given that it's a Devout with an animus, a good start might be Menoth players.

I'm not a fan of the look of kriel warriors or champions... so I'm going with boomhowlers . They're mercenaries, but hey... they look Awesome! (and should work fine with eDoomy)

Bit of a points-sink with any other trollbloods caster for what they do, though, since they can't be buffed...

Don't forget a devout has defensive strike, can be buffed by a choir, and can stop the caster from being able to be targeted by spells. Also, at least to me, a shield guard is more important for a warcaster than a warlock (specifically because of Eiryss). Even still, the only menoth caster I take a devout with is the Harbinger because of her base size.

I've never used a Neph Protector despite agreeing that the model does look awesome - there's just no room in a legion list for a 5 point defensive beast. Legion tends to be too offensively oriented to be able to spend points like that.

The Drudges can die in a fire, but the Cephalyx.

The Cephalyx are awesome models and have horrible rules.

I agree 100% with that. Guess ill just have to paint it up and stare at it on a shelf. Praying that we get a nephilim char that will make him playable in the future. Another model I love with sub par rules is the bloat thrall for Cryx. Not quite as bad as the NP but his stats are awful.

O.o

I love the old Winterguard!

But as for me? Hmmm... I do love me the Merc Talon 'Jack, but it gets little to no love =/

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

I agree with this being a more progressive topic of discussion. eEiryss is an amazing unit but the model is quite controversial. I personally loathe it.

You're daft if you think the woodsmen are a bad unit. They can be RAT 8 in the right circumstances.

Pew pew.

The problem with the woodsmen is aside from the ambush rule, there are things that do everything they do better at the same or cheaper.

Yes, aside from the rule that really defines their role in the army, others can shoot/melee better. I agree.

Assault Kommandos Crappy?!? The only unit left in the game that I can think of that can, by itself, make 3 attacks is bad? Here is a trick -- play with pButcher and drop iron flesh on them as they advance in shield wall. Hello def 15 arm 18. Then, when you get in range, drop fury on them, pop feat and assault and battery. Thats a 3 dice pow 10, followed by a pow 12 weapon master charge, followed by a pow 11 weapon master attack. Did your opponent decide to run to engage your Kommandos? Thats cool, use your flame throwers (which can't hurt other Kommandos) with assault and battery to clear the chaff engaging your Kommandos before you light up everything else. Hard to go wrong with that!

And that's the real trick of Warmachine/Hordes: Units are good if you, the player, use them right. You can't just plop a unit on the table and expect it to perform miracles. If you use it correctly, any unit can do wonders.

EDIT: Assault Commandos against Legion and Menoth is just mean. "Oh yeah, the majority of your ranged attacks? Not happening. Oh, and our caster? He ignores fire/corrosion too. So does his jack. Is your turn done yet?"

...Beast 09....

My favorite jack in the army, he is in nearly every list i make, he is imo the best jack in the game.
His model is terrible, it's all unbalanced, very bulky (even by khador standards), and he looks like he is eternally squatting...

The only solace is that with a little determination some modeling putty and some extra money you can just convert an extreme Juggernaut into him to take his place.

Works great until your opponent realizes you wasted points on assault commandoes and just bludgeons you to death.

I'd have to give the @$$ commandos my prize for favorite models with worst rules. Their models are pretty cool, not really great, but my opinion of PP models in general isn't that high so you can take that with the grain of salt it's worth. Their rules on the other hand are on the low end of terrible. Nothing impressive at range or in melee and it's easy to confuse "Assault and Battery" for the infinitely better "Assault" order. The need CRA or CMA or I dunno just base stats that suck less. They can make three attacks in a single activation, but the highest POW is a 10 (naturally using their lower RAT instead of their better MAT) followed by a 9 and 8. The gas grenades could be genuinely worthwhile if they were actual could effects or even still worked if they didnh't directly hit their target. It's appropraite that the unit is named Assault Commandos.

Rhoven and Honour guard - beautiful, but essentially just exemplar with wounds now that their armour buff is gone.

Exemplar Cinerators - why, oh why did they do this? These models are GORGEOUS, better looking than even the Bastions in my opinion, but their rules are terrible. No shield wall, nor even the....what's it called... whatever rule gives +2 arm when in btb with another member of the same unit...Defensive Line? I think that's it.

I understand you want them to be different from Bastions, but why downright worse?

Immunity to fire would be a nice addition to them too, and flavorful, now that I think about it...

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.
