Now, most people [I have been in this position] feel that land raider killing isn't necesarily the lascannons big shot, there are other choices there.

First, lets look at tank hunting:
Percs:
Long range.
Good strength. capable.
often possible to field onmasse for not too much, and at that with twin linked..

Caveats
Heavy
single shot
unreliable against AV14. [I do not mean useless! I do however mean that there are better options, and that a 6 to pen isn't exactly a reliable number. ]

Tactic:
IF you're facing AV ten, usually one lascannon fireing will be fine. but it's generally a good idea that for every point above AV10, add a lascannon. [simply based on the fact that it is better to have firepower take out one big target that will be a problem, then to pepper lots of squads with a little bit of firepower.] usually the squad attached to the lascannons will be useless. [though good for taking hits.] There is no clear method here. six lascannons is alot of firepower just for one puny tank, and on average you'll only get a 3-4 area.

Against troops:
Percs:
Long range
wounds on a 2+
AP2.

Caveats:
Overkill. there are better options
can only ever take out one target.
Heavy

Tactics:
Find something bigger. it's really not worth wasting the shot unless there truely isn't anything else to shoot.

Monster hunting
wounds on a 2+ in most cases.
AP 2
Good range

Caveat
only take out one wound.
can't instant kill.

Tactics: three lascannons on one target will very well, usuall taking out two wounds a turn. [three isn't unlikely.]

TOOs [target of oppertunity]

good:
Adaptability [can take on anything with a good chance of sucsess.]
Decent range

Caveat:
Heavy. movement makes flexibility and mobility a problem. the long range takes care of this.
only makes one hit. and targets under over T5 can't be instant killed.

Good?
It has good range and decent capabilities.
Bad?
heavy and only shoots once per turn.

On tanks, mobility isn't so much as a problem. Predators are good, land raiders can pump out two lascannons a turn and still move 6".

Razorbacks are beautiful - plus they can carry an extra four lascannons, meaning that five lascannons at one target? killed mostly. plus for easy movement, it can hid them away for a turn.

I did, I just can't fathom why you'd put devastators in razorbacks when you might just as well deploy in cover and fire those lazors all game long

Also, what's the price for quad las Devs and a Lazorback? Roughly 305p without any extra bodies?
