As the title says I played my very first game of WHFB yesterday when my friend offered to teach me after I told him I was coming back to 40k. And I have to say I really enjoyed the experience.

My friend let me play his 2250 skaven army against his 2250 VC army and it was really fun. I found myself staring at the battlefield for minutes at a time debating how I wanted to maneuver, what and how I wanted to dispel, and just in general trying to plan what unit would strike where. I had a blast and it has convinced me to build a WHFB army along with the 40 army I am now building.

My question right now is what army do I want to try. I have my mind on playing either Brettonia or Dwarfs. I have been reading the forums for a while saying that Brettonia took some shots in 8th edition, but the idea of lots of knights with all different manners of heraldry appeal to me. On the other hand dwarfs are dwarfs and look really fun as well.

Thanks!

P.S. Is there any word at all on updates for Brettonia? Would love to see plastic grail knights and questing knights, $50 for 5 knights my word.

Brettonia did take some hits. As did all cavalry in 8th edition. But the Errata for them really seemed to help them. The lance formation is still viable run well and trebuchets are still great artillery. Not a lost cause from what I've read if you decide to go for Brettonians. Though they seem to be a force that doesn't forgive tactical mistakes easily and require some finesse it tactics. Dwarfs are fun for the great artillery, tough troops and characters as well as some of the most effective magic defence in the game.

Also. Welcome to fantasy battles. Wish I had tried it sooner personally.

I decide on armies based on models and overall theme. Brets have a crap ton of horses to paint which gets extremely boring after about 6 of them.

Dwarves got a big boost this edition with the changes to templates and charging. They are also a fairly versatile army, and have excellent models. Of the two armies you listed, dwarves have the more recent rules and the broader scope of play.

Welcome to wfb.

Thanks for the advice. I'm still not sure which I am going to go with but I did pick up a Pegasus Knight today, so I am gonna try and paint that and see how I feel about it.
