Is it allowed in tournaments? Is it something you'd commonly see used? For instance, are Elysian Shock Troops allowed.

And, the short answer to your query is, no, Imperial Armour expansions are not allowed in tournaments.

The short answer is: it is allowed in some, very few tournaments and campaign weekends, but not normally allowed.

Like most "tournament" questions there is no hard and fast answer, as TOs can decide what they wish - they could ban Orks entirely, for example, or may decide to allow the ork tank list from IA8. They usually spell this out clearly in their tournament rules packs, with most UK GW ones even giving the ISBNs of the codexes to make sure you bring the right one.
